Well I just got my new system all setup with my new graphics card and motherboard. Everything is great except 1 thing. After I installed the nvidia chipset drivers, my IDE harddisc appears like its a removable device which adds teh "safely remove hardware" icon to the systray. Now, I remember Sikoman (Spelling??) having similar problem but I can't find the thread. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem and if they managed to fix it.

On another note, the gfx card is amazing. F.E.A.R plays so damn smooth and looks incredible! So pleased with it apart from that small problem.

THanks in advance

It's normal with nForce4 mobo's. I believe. All you have to do is uninstall the IDE Cable drivers.

My SATA drives appear as removable devices... i dont think it effects performance in any way though, or causes any damage.

I didn't think it would affect performance, its just that its annoying because I like to have a minimal systray (Trillian, NOD32, Microsoft Antispyware, wlan icon & speaker icon). I'll try uninstalling the ide cable drivers. Hopefully it will work.

On another note, I jsut installed Far Cry and all I can say is wow! when i turn up the graphics settings it looks incredible and plays so smooth. Havent tried HL2 or CS:S yet because teh Steam servers seem pretty busy with the release of Lost Cost, but I can't wait to see what its like!

EDIT: Thanks for both replys, much appreciated.

Well after a while it just hides itself. You can set it to hide straight away by right clicking on the arrow, click proporties, then click customise at the bottom and set it to hide always or something.

Yeh I think I will just forget about it. Not a big thing anyway.

The new SATA spec allows for hard drives to be hot swappable. You can unplug your drive and plug it back in without any worries, while the system is running. It is a feature, something is not broken. ;)

Ah right, didn't know that. But, i still feel safer shutting the computer down to plug in/take out any hard drives.

Yeh I was reading about it earlier. You don't happen to know if there is a way to turn it off because I'm never going to need to hotswap my drive, I mean its my system drive!

Windows Explorer, Right click the S-ATA drive, Properties, Hardware, select the drive, Properties, Policies. There is Optimize for Quick Removal and Optimize for Performance, see of that changes anything.

And btw, what you doing with your old mobo/gfx card?

Probably try and sell it somewhere, why you interested? :p Very good condition, all the cables, manuals, cd's fully boxed. My 9800pro was an OEM card but it does come fitted with an arctic cooler HSF so its cool and quiet.

Ommmm, advertising!
*runs odd to tell his mommy* ^_^

Just set it to "always hide" in the toolbar customisation settings if you can't find a way to get rid of it, then you'll only see it when you extend the toolbar out.

 Maybe . . . .

Seeing as you stay near Aberdeen and all, Inverurie wasn't it?

What make and model was it again?
I'm really considering going 64bit before this year ends, preferably skt939

it appears that your PC has infact become haunted by some type of ghost. the only remedy to this is to actually send me your PC so I can perform an exorcism, but I cannot guarantee that you will ever see your PC or hear me from me ever again. PM me for my address kthx.

Pricey shipping to Canada..

I have had a scout about on the net and I can't seem to find any info on being able to 'turn off' the hot swappable features. I mean I'm never going to use it so it would be useful if you could.
