New Gran Turismo 4 screenshots

Besides that they won't show at this resolution and with this level of FSAA, I'm really impressed. These cars seem to have some serious poly counts! :eek:

pritty much the same.. dont want GT4 but black & white 2 !

not really into track games, i get bord of going round and round. i really like rallys game though alot less linnier
 
Ive got the prolougue edition of GT4 :p, imported from japan
 
The shadows in that game look so bad, they are just rectangles.
 
that looks like crap and it's not even what you will see on your TV screen
 
Loke, you don't need to know Japanese to play JP games good, I have several highly complicated JP only strategy games, in Japanese i.e., political, I've managed to clear many of'em through trial and error.:)

But then again, I've been playing games in Japanese since I was about 7 years old XD

That wasn't what I meant, but in GT4 Prologue Edition there is some Japanese text that Polyphony didn't change.

Well, I haven't played Prologue myself so I don't know for sure.
 
But, yeah, GT4 looks mighty nice, My favourite racing game for PS2 right now is NFSU tho.
 
Yes they can. You see, they're upset that a $200, 2+ year old machine is giving better graphics than games they just spent thousands of dollars to play.

They will continue to be anal retentive and refuse to accept the fact that consoles have good graphics too. Hell, when PS3 comes out with much better graphics than any PC games, they will still say it looks like shit.
 
I think consoles can have great graphics, but never at the scale of PCs(atleast with this gen of consoles).
 
Yes, but, you have to consider, console games runs at far less resolutions without AA and such, I think PC games are and will for quite some time be supperior to consoles in graphics.

I think you underestimate consoles a little here. PS2 as I know can do FSAA, just look at Tekken Tag Tournament or Gran Turismo 3. PS2 can also do "bump-mapping" (I don't know if it's called bump-mapping on PS2, but it looks the same as bump-mapping do), look at Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath, but it's very rare that developers make "bump-mapping" in games on the PS2.

On the other hand, I think that PC will never be beaten when it comes to play over the Internet.
 
Oh for the love of...If you're going to insult the graphics in a game its wise not to do it to possibly the best looking racing game ever made. Go watch it in action if you think its ugly.
 
Loke, PC games still run with higher details, and consoles still can't handle nearly as much data as the PC games handles in terms of shaders etc.
 
NTSC has 352 X 240 video resolution and PAL's video resolution is 352 X 288, these are the two standards for TV, meaning that PS2 runs games at these resolutions.

Then compare that to the PCs which can run at 1024x768 without any impact on framerate with incredibly good shader handling ect.
 
True Zakat, but as I said in the Killzone thread, PC maybe beats PS2 in graphical terms but that's because you can upgrade the PC all the time. While you can't do a thing about the graphics on the PS2.

But playing a PS2 game at that resolution as you said is nearly unacceptable on the PC in my opinion.

Anyway graphics isn't all, gameplay in my opinion is the first in a game. Without any gameplay in a game, you wouldn't play it. At last I wouldn't.

Anyway, Consoles owns PCs because they don't need upgrades and still gets new games for about 4-5 years.

PCs owns consoles because they steadily gets new hardware and thus makes faster jumps in technology.

I'm though impressed about the PSX (Playstation 1), it's about 9-10 years old and they still make games for it. :)
 
The PSX was released 95, so yeah, about 9 years old, tho, i havn't heard of any new game getting released for it.

BUT, the developers STILL produce the OLD games in platinum releases ect.
 
Although I don’t play PSX/PSOne anymore, but where can I read that?

I think gaming consoles will eventually disappear and meld into Computerized Entertainment Platforms. I always looked at the X-Box as a non upgradable gaming PC.

Right now in terms of graphics computers will always get way ahead of consoles and then the next-gen consoles will be released and have a short lead over computers for maybe four months or less.

In terms of realism or entertainment? PGR 2 is a bloody good drving game, but i'm not sure if the handling is realistic (i'm not a car person :P)

to be honest ive never played it....so take my comment with a grain of salt.

i just know ive played alot of PC and console racing games....

Pc racing games suck in general....the NFS series are fun untill you have played GT.

....and ive havent really played any console racer other than GT that i liked a whole lot.

sure there are some fun ones ...but nothing as in depth.
 
GT4 is btw delayed to Q3 2004 if you guys didn't know.
 
woooooow another car game. looks just like GT3, and i didnt like that either. probally coz i was allwayrs the worst ourt of my m8s and allways lost. made me have a grudge against GT ever scince.... on the other hand, i cant get buck rogers out of my head, and i like that song.
 
I can't believe you people actually think this game looks good or plays well. I'v got a third rate PC rally game called 'master Rally' that looks better and has better physics.

I have or rather my brother has two GT games and there both crap.

like i said ive never played a racing game for any platform(especially pc) that was half as good as the GT series.
 
Excellent screenshots. Looks a lot better than GT3. Amazing how they can get the lighting to look so real.

I loved GT3 and i'll probably love this just as much! I still haven't finished that mazda-Mx5 endurance race! THEY DON'T LET YOU MOD THE CAR!!! I can't rely on skill to win that race!

Same here, that endurance is damn hard.

I once played the Seattle endurance because I wanted the Formula 1 car, unfortunately I didn't win it the first time so I just changed the oil in my car and drove off for a another endurance on the Seattle track.

But so unluckily I’ am I didn't win the Formula 1 car, I won two ZZ II... ;(
 
I have 4 Formula 1 cars on GT3! I guess I was just really lucky. Try the Super Speedway endurance race, thats where I won all 4 of em! What I really want now is the Polyphony002, the second type of F1 car. Apparently it's much lighter and quicker in the acceleration department! :thumbs:
Btw those GT4 pics look excellent, although I was a bit shocked by the lack of shape and detail on the shadows. I guess that's why it's been delayed to Q3...
