New Gran Turismo 4 screenshots

"NTSC has 352 X 240 video resolution and PAL's video resolution is 352 X 288, these are the two standards for TV" .... they arent at all, they are double that, ntsc (american) is 720*480 at 30fps and PAL is 720*576 at 25fps get your facts straight :) and console's will never ever ever ever beat a pc!

cant remember what it's called, but has anyone seen that new racing game [not out yet though] with havok 2 physics[i think, but theyre good anyway :)]. it looks incredible. im definitely getting that.the developers called the half life 2 of racing games in an interview iirc.

That looks hot, reminds me about the game "Destruction Derby 2" that I have played so much so the music is completely jerky, just like my Red Alert CD. :)

He's right, and many console games have progressive scan, which I believe is 1024x768 or similar to it. The whole argument that console games run well because they're in crappy resolutions doesn't hold near as much weight as some people think it does. It's true that most of the time you see it in 720x480 but most newer games on all platforms are capable of running much higher given you have the right TV.

for gfx....no doubt.

but for gameplay.....racing games are almost always more fun on a console.....

sitting there with 4 freinds drinking some beers......a PC cant beat that. :cheers:

I like the gfx myself. They look rough and somewhat real. Not flashy, like NFS:U.
There is a nice racing game, that is very accurate, that I used to play. Forgot the name though.
The SS look very similar and they have similar gfx.

Off topic: Standards
NTSC is 525 lines @ 30 FPS (Only 486 visible on the screen)
An analog NTSC TV is 60 Hertz interlaced also.
Saying NTSC is 720x480 (or 486) is misleading because:

1) As with almost anything analog, there is loss.
2) Once you get beyond ~380 Horisontal resolution, it almost matters zero for what your resolution is (let alone 720) because of how the picture is displayed on analog TVs. Vertical resolution matters much more for picture quality.

The amount of signal quality retained depends on the cable.

Composite (RCA) is limited to about 352x240 resolution.
S-Video is limited to about 352x480. It doesn't matter what you do beyond that, as your only going to get what the cable can supply because of quality loss.
I'm not saying that you cannot display 720x480 through a S-Video cable but rather displaying it in lower resolution may be no different because there would be no viewable difference when displayed.

When capturing, it is much different because once again "As with almost anything analog, there is loss" so you want to retain as much detail as possible by capturing in high resolution.
But what to expect in the form of objective/usable results using analog is what my point is about, not theory.

Progressive scan only means that its a progressive picture (scans all the lines in one pass) rather than interlaced (scans every other line 1st, scans the remaining lines 2nd). Resolution is a different matter.
e.g. 480p, 720p, 1080i
p=progressive
i=interlaced
;)

Hmmmm. I am having my doughts about the graphics looking that good when its played on your every day ps2. They always make it look than what it is and I really hate it how this game has to be on the ps2. O well I supose the gameplay should be good but they did spoil the series ever since number 1.

The AI is grand turismo games is totally terrible, this is proberly the main thing I hate about the game. Also the fact that it does not feal realistic at all. Its not even really a driving simulators in my opinion. It is quiet a good game though, just a bit overrated.
