New Graphics Card today, Woo Hoo!

Well I finally broken the force field. I will (from my salary) be able to by a new graphics card today. Originally I had GeForce4 MX440. But I don't know which one to get.

I've seen a GeForceFX 5950 Ultra for £90, but I don't know how it will perform. But I'm going by this benchmark http://www.digital-daily.com/video/ati-radeon-x800xt/

I will get it today, unless anybodies got an objection (due to it being crap for some strange reason.)

Or you your have had any problems with it performing.

£100 is my limit

be aware that they are running the 5XXX cards in DX8 mode, if they were to run them in DX9 with all the nice stuff like reflecting water then they would take a massive performance hit (from what i've heard anyway)

if i were you i'd go a bit mad and buy a 9800Pro, my friend has one and it plays HL2 smoothly in all areas on 1280x980 with AA/AF on

Personally I'm happy for the moment with my overclocked 5900XT.
And was I not a Nvidia fanboy..then I would buy this one card for £100 or less...The 9800 Pro.

Its still one hell of a card...and still manages to get twice what the FX cards do in 3dmark 05, and that benchmark is a killer.

Just have a look a look on ebay, in Loot (www.loot.co.uk) or check out the classified ads in the back of Micromart magazine.
I''m sure you could get a second hand one for £80 or so.

do not get a gefore 5 series, its a waste of money. Get a 9800 pro or 9600 pro at least. Youll be glad you did.

The whole FX series was quite a flop, go with a 9800 Pro/XT or save up :S

one question, why bother with last gen cards? the 9800pro is miles more expensive than the nvidia 6600gt i would highly recommend it just get the agp version. it's the best inclass performance/price out there, and it supports all the latest technology which older cards don't.

Avoid the FX cards like the plague. If you like Nvidia try and go for a 6600GT.

OCuk GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3. Brilliant card that runs HL2 just as fast as a 9800 pro but also runs openGL games like doom 3 at twice the speed. OCuk source these cards direct from Nvidia so its actually Nvidia built and branded. At £133.89 its a steal!

Go for the 6600gt AGP, I did and I had that crap video card you did (GeForce 4 MX440) and WOW is the difference AMAZING. Of course I wouldn't know how much it costs in that currency. But if you are getting it I would suggest the BFG 6600gt OC because it comes overclocked (525 core, 1050 memory) and is all around better than the other 6600gt's, plus, you can't beat a lifetime warranty in case anything goes wrong. My freind overclocked his BFG 6800gt and it messed up and he got a replacement even though its void if you overclock haha.

its dx 8, you can force it to dx9 but with a fps loss, and some water problems
