here!

im dowloading em as we speak!

Lets hope they are good!

(btw, sorry if this was posted before)

is this like bink version like all of the others??

no because there arent any alyx tech demos or a wall tech demos thats narrated on steam.

well, mines done in 5 minutes. Then well see.

This has already been posted if I am not mistaken. I downloaded these 2 vids last night sometime. Anyway, they arent THAT great. I am still waiting for Valve to release another in-game video. :bounce:

i'll have to wait till next month to download these
:(

yeah these have been posted a few times, but nevertheless the wall one never ceases to amaze me, going from 20, 000 polys into 1 is amazing.

i knew about this 7 - 8 hours ago, cbf posting it id prolly get flamed for some reason. :p

well, i diddent know the site was up again, and im linked directly to the forums.

yeah uhm it's not that i blame you for anything, but just like a tip. and to remind you the site is indeed up again.

A LOT of people don't check the main site, they do check this forum. I don't see anything wrong with a quick pointer on here to where new media is since there's nothing in the announcements or anything. And judging by the question of people in this thread they weren't aware the movies existed. Some people on this forum need to take their high horses out of their arses, they really do.

For those who havn't seen them the two movies show usage of the xsi tools and model viewer etc in creation of a wall texture and lightmap and then in the second movie the process of exporting the alyx model is demo'ed. There are a couple of "cryptic" comments from the people doing the demo which hint that all the tools and the engine will be in a full modable state on release day and they mention some of the things modders will be able to do.

I got the wall but have not watched it yet, good quality?

I really don't understand what bit torrent is or why I should use it?

Bit torrent it one of the more recent peer to peer systems, it's actually quite good.

The wall vid is interesting if you appreciate the technical side of things, if you just want to see lots people shooting aliens or you're a 12 year old who wants to see an naked alyx then it won't interest you.

lol at mojo, thats about it really.

I found it interesting, I am gona need to learn this stuff. Do any of you know where I could learn to do this stuff. I know how to model and annimate but I never learned how to do this bump/specular/difuse/normal mapping. And if I am honest I am not entirely sure what the specular or difuse ones are :p

I would love to learn mind :) Any help welcome :)

the specular map determines the amount of light reflection..

Congratulations, your mother must be proud. Anyone know how diffuse lighting works in hl2 or at all?

Diffuse reflections in RL is light reflected off dull or non-shiney surfaces. The kind of way a room lights up slightly when you have just a pinprick of light breaking in through a window shutter, that kind of thing.

found some definitions of diffuse.. not 100% sure of their credibility, but they sound about right

DIFFUSE MAP: A technique used to change an object's previously assigned color, usually into a pattern or image.

DIFFUSE COLOR: The color of an object that is reflected when the object is illuminated by a direct light source.

DIFFUSENESS: A measure of how much light is reflected off a surface. Usually measured along a scale from zero to one, where zero diffuseness means that none of the light falling on a surface is reflected and the object appears black.

<edit
oh well almost got first :)

nice. Thanks people. This forum contains some good members doesent it. :)

And bad..........

I am both. MoJo is nice. Night is an arse. Are there any other mentally segmented people here or is it just me?

Does anyone know if Valve Is supposed to release new gameplay videos or not? Im just curious! I need something to drool over :D :cheese:

its quite amazing how the made 1 big polygon look exactly like 20,000 polygons. it looks great and easy on the pc.

I'm a lot more interested in the tech side of source and d3e than the games so I found this really interesting. I've got loads of ideas for using the new features and I'm glad the modding tools look really good and easy to use.

I get bored of things pretty easily unless there's always something new to learn about them, so finding out about the design and tech side of things was a natural step to keep alive my interest in blowing stuff up...

New vids come out once the Steam beta ends. We have no ETA on that though, sorry. All we know is that two weeks after THAT, they will put ALL HL games onto Steam.

thank you for posting this even if it had already been posted i had missed it in the news and previous posts

alyx movie ...
wow it sounds complicated but looked very cool when it had compiled i cant wait to play with the facial movements

wall movie ...
i thought this was the most intresting of all the movies i have seen yet the textures in halflife2 will be alot more detailed and i am more excited than ever to get a chance to mod this the reason i stopped mapping hl1 was i couldnt get enough detail without having to worry about stupid lag spikes in areas of detail and from what the movie suggested it seems they have cut the polys down to a minimum so it will be so easy to make rocks that look unique instead of jagged triangles and it shouldnt use too much of the cpu to make even the most complex shapes

well i think im going to brush up on my mapping skills in the next month (or so) b4 hl2 comes out its looking like we will have alot more learning ahead to master this one

Jaguar nothing personal, but try using punctuation and commas in your sentences.. makes it alot easier to read :)
But I agree about the wall thingy.. very interesting technology I must say

me too m8 this was the most interesting movies i have seen (although i drooled over the e3 ones for weeks lol) this kind of thing makes me have lots of ideas about the mod i was planning (i thought of making it for hl1 but its too detailed for hl1 :( ) ... i agree he makes it look easy to use but i think we have some learning to do to make some really top notch maps :)
anyway nice too hear other people have similar views as me :) i really wanna play the game but modding interests me more than it ever has done b4
