In the latest PSM issue, the June magazine, there's a large preview on Free Radicals upcoming first person shooter called "Haze". It has been quite a while since there was any info on it until now.

Some snippets from the mag (there are scans on the web as we speak with new shots on the current build).

---
. Four-player co-op. But that's not all, you can choose to play with three other friends either offline, online or even on LAN. It can also be mixed with, say, you and a friend plays on the same console while two others play with you over the internets.

. Players can jump in and out seamlessly at any time during gameplay changing the core strategies of play from start to finish.

. There's to be NO load times in the game, ever.

. No cutscenes, the game will be very similar to the Half-Life games in terms of story telling and such. You're in the shoes of Shane Carpenter and you'll never leave 'em.

. A number of two-to-four person vehicles are included in the game. Each squad member has his own different role too. They can even break apart, realistically.

. Driven by Free Radicals own engine which makes Unreal-based games "run for their money.".

. Locked at a steady 30 frames per second. 60 aren't necessarily for a shooter with Haze's pacing.

. NO level editor included in the game due to the overall complexity of the game's design.

. Four different types of Nectar abilities:
  • Foresight - If a bullet, grenade or even a melee attack is headed your way, you'll see a ripple in the ground originating from the source of the attack right before it happens which gives you the opportunity to react for whatever is coming your way.
  • Perception - Whenever activated you'll see the enemy in a halo of light even if they're in a dark spot invisible to the naked eye.
  • Melee Blast - Gives you a temporary boost of strength, meaning that if you hit an enemy with a melee attack it will basically kill them instantly.
  • Focus - Allows you to focus on a specific enemy making it a easy kill.

. You play as a guy named Shane Carpenter which has been dropped into a war in Central South America that involves Mantel, which is a large corporation with numerous interests in different businesses around the world. While one of their main divisions is involved with military arms and manufacturing, Mantel's other large division focuses primarily on biomedical research and enhancements. This division produces a substance known as Nectar that, when injected, makes soldiers better fighters giving them more strength, more speed and also gives them a series of special abilities.
The game takes place over the course of three days, starting off when Carpenter, the player, is dropped in South America.

There's more in the mag including a large interview with Derek Littlewood, Creative Director at Free Radical.

I don't know about you guys but when I saw that it's going to include four-player co-op support my anticipation for this game just skyrocketed.

I was already really looking forward to it. These guys made the best console FPS games of last generation and they'll probably do the same in this one too.

I couldn't believe the screenies even way back when they were released and these details are music to my ears because this is all stuff I was worried about since the graphics seemed to be in the bag. Good good news!!

Wait. . . since it's usually really hard to get melee attacks in on any FPS. . .shouldnt it be a one hit kill to begin with?

Kickass info! Need some SCREENS!

Depends entirely on how the game is designed. In TimeSplitters, which is what the team previously worked on, there were tons of scenarios where you were low on ammo and had to knock zombies heads off with the butt of your gun, baseball bats, whatever. They like to force you into fighting up close.

I would kinda like to see a new TS game on the new consoles, but this sounds cool too. It seems like they're changing the focus from the arcade style, multiplayer focused arena game to a more story based game ... I hope it's for the best.

I hope so. They seem to be really good at making humorous FPS, maybe they'll be able to put their talents to use on something more serious.

Nice. Just picked up Timesplitters 2, so this is sounding mighty good.

Unfortunately no gameplay footage, no ingame footage at all, Ubisoft released a new teaser for Haze.

Link.

Nifty teaser but me want gameplay footage!

That Teaser was kickass. This game is looking really cool so far.
