1st off, I must say this is one good looking forum full of lotsa of good information!

I've had HL2 for about a year without installing it (lol) as I just scored a video card capable of playing it

I'm running :

P4 @ 2.8ghz
512 DDR ram
Radeon 9700 Pro

I'm also having an issue running the damn game! :flame:
(If this is not the area, I can ask elsewhere  )

I'm getting an error between 2-8 minutes into the game which states "hl2.exe has encountered an error" blah blah blah

All my video drivers are uptodate, settings lowered, defragged HDD, reinstalled Steam, reinstalled HL2

I dunno what else to do...it crashes from just sitting on the main menu :flame:

Anywho, any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks!

I'm sorry, the forum is full, you cannot be allowed, you will need to have your account deleted :|

just kidding. There's a tech help forum up near the top somewhere, you'll probably have better luck up there.

Sounds like you've got some hardware conflicts. Here is a troubleshooting guide :
Link 1

It could also be your RAM. Try taking one stick out (If you have two) and playing then. If the problem still persists, try the other stick. If the problem still persists, you could try with other RAM. If the game starts playing longer after you changed the RAM (type(manufacturer) or amount), you have bad RAM, consult with the person that sold you the computer for new RAM. (Or if you built the computer yourself, just buy some RAM of the same type.)
