New Hl2 Faq at PHL

Q: Back in September 2003, you were talking about releasing several different versions of the game. Such as a multiplayer-only version, and singleplayer-only version. Are these versions still planned?

A: Back when Sierra was still in business, they had plans for a value-priced edition that would have been a singleplayer only version. Once Sierra was shut down, they scrapped the plans for those versions and ended up with 2 versions: 1 "normal" version (includes both single and multiplayer) and one Collectors Edition (more on that below).

well we know there is no walmart version now. Good to know 100%.

Good faq!

No more value version.

Omg The Combine Make You Pick Up Garbage, Those Monsters

That was great!

For those too lazy to read it all, here is some info:

- Confirmed; only 2 versions of HL2, the normal SP and MP, and the CE!
- Items held by the Manipulator will stay with you while changing levels.
- TF2 is being worked on by Valve and will be announced after HL2's release!
- DoD:S is being worked on, but WILL NOT be available at HL2's launch.
- Valve will release patches to utilize new graphic card's special features (PS 3.0, etc.) through Steam.
- HL2 will probably be 4 CDs and 1 DVD; CE will most likely be the only DVD-rom version.

There is quite a bit more at the actual link, so definitely read it ASAP!

Add to that game length of around 25 hours

OMG i cant believe TF2 is going to take place in space with humans from other planets fighting eachother!

25 hours, Thats decent. Although didn't they state it takes about 30 or so hours? Or is that how long it took for Gaben to beat?

Q: Will the new level design allow Terrain Deformation, or will it be be more like Half-Life 1 (where you had to set a breakable spot in Hammer)?

A: Half-Life 2 will not have any Terrain Deformation, but it can be enabled or used in mods. On a side note, Team Fortress 2 will have Terrain Deformation.

WOW TF2 TERRAIN DEFORMATION

Most games claim they have around 20, and turn out to last about 5, so ill wait till i hear a review.

They better release some stuff about TF2 after HL2 because im going crazy.

Acctully its deliberate, the barrel is server side, because it provides cover, physical damage etc, the breeze block is client side cause it serves no purpose in the gameplay, they clip cause they cant interact.
Sounds about right. You won't get this sort of clipping in the single-player portion.

They said TF2 will be announced after HL2's release, so I assume that will be after they get HL2 on track, making sure Steam is rolling smooth.

AWESOME stuff!

That talk about the AI was awesome.
AND we now know you can use your hands to pick up stuff!
(Combine telling you to throw away the litter on the ground, AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!)

This is why I hate the game hours thing. Everyone is different and you are bound to get people who run through the game from start to finish, then complain it's too short.

I don't think I've played any game that took 5 hours to complete.

EDIT: and you are going to wait for reviews before you get Half-Life 2? Just to see how long it is? Wow.

so the e3 2k4 vid WAS the beginning. . .

Well, it's part of the beginning. From an article somewhere, I read that there's more stuff that happens before you leave the train.

We've known that for some time, though I can't remember where the information came from originally...

I told you so, when they said CS: Source would follow with all versions of Half-Life 2. Obvious meaning a SP only version was scrapped.

Btw, what did you guys think of the fact that he said that Team Fortress 2 will have terrain deformation -like when grenades blow chunks out of the ground- and so on?

Sounds like good news to me, I can't wait for THAT game either ^^

Okay, maybe I'm nuts. But does anyone feel that delaying this article until now, and all the news coming out lately from Gabe and whatnot, is a deliberate attempt at hyping us up for an impending release of HL2? (And take note that most of this media is not really "new", like they promised.)

In other words, could HL2 really be coming out soon? For real?! :bounce:

Valve better not yank our chains again! ;(

I heard that you actually have a 5 minute train ride before you get off the train onto the station. I remember IGN mentioning they interacted with many folks on the train.

and good screens there! I love HL2 and Stalker's level designs - they beat the shit out of other games!

There are very nice informationen about Half Life 2 and a nice preview about CS:S ! Thank you for the Link.

Actually we weren't supposed to get any new media at all.

I read that too... However, this makes me ponder... If you're let off the train with NO weapons, and a combine soldier tells you to PICK SOMETHING UP and throw it away, you're obviously not using the manipulator (no weapons yet) and therefore, you must use your hands.

Does this mean that we get to pick stuff up with our hands in the game too? There's no other way that we've seen to pick stuff up, yet...

Yes, you can pick stuff up with your hands. It was discovered about a month or two ago, after someone visited Valve.

Wow... Thanks for the update... Where have I been?

Now, this makes me even more excited...

During one sequence a combine solider asks you to pick up a can and put it into a certain garbage can, if you put it in the wrong one or if you try and put something else in they know what you have put in.

Doesn't this scream "Training room" to anyone else?

I don't think that the combine will give you any weapons lol "here citizen, try this out".
