Has any one seen or played this yet? I'm downloading it now. Here's the scoop from the site:
Description
Penumbra is a horror adventure game featuring state of the art graphics and makes heavy use of physics. Penumbra was created as a technology development project, with the aim to explore new uses of physics in games.

Make no mistake, Penumbra may be free but that fact has not limited its development and the game includes all sorts of eye candy that you would demand from a contemporary retail title. It is not just about the tech however and the game's developers have spent a long time making the storyline intriguing and incorporating the in-game physics in such way that the result is a very cohesive and immersive title.

Penumbra is a must-have download for all gamers and proves that a small team of students working for the fun-of-it-all can create an engaging product and a pretty decent engine too.

If you are concerned about the large filesize of the download you can always view a few Penumbra Movies.
Check it out here.

The movies look interesting. You interact with the world in a slightly different way, almost like the Doom3 engine, but with more control (where when your reticle is over something you can use, the function changes). There's also a creepy monster, and I'm a sucker for those. :E The graphics don't seem that hot in the movies, but that may be compression. The physics and lighting seem pretty good. Thoughts?

No space, plus I doubt I could run it... Looks cool though!

I downloaded the video to see what it will be like.

The physics seems to work like Oblivion! The shadows are great. The doors and drawers are incredible. He pushed the chair against the door to stop the monster from entering temporarily! This is incredibly impressive considering 4 guys did this in a year. The textures and resolution isn't too bad.

Sweet. The PC requirements are very low.

It's free.

I'll give it a shot. Downloading now.

I'll give it a shot. It sounds interesting.

I've been looking for a game like this for a long time, where you use physics to achieve goals like stopping that monster.

It sucked tbh, I didn't find a single weapon... it was really a puzzle game.
Not scary at all.

But, it's free... so can't really complain.

how long is the game? and what this about no weapons???

I didn't actually beat it, I got bored.

Just try it for yourself.

I decided to give it another shot...
And I have to say I'm impressed, the way you control things is quite nice.
You actually to move the mouse the right / left / whatever to open doors/drawers/etc.
It's cool.
Very creepy too.

Sorry, about my negativity there before, I was still pretty much tired from waking up. :p

Its an adventure game and not a first person shooter, still very good IMO. Great atmosphere and all.

Brilliant game, but I had to stop playing. I don't like being scared. :(

wuss!

/me considers stopping download out of fear

great game. I got to the part where you fix the key...i went back to the corridor and my view went all fady and i heard sounds...then nothing...so..where to now? I cant go back to the other room where that...that..THING is in because i cant kill it!

The game is very intense, even though its nothing much going on, it gives me that feeling you know, the levels remindes me strongly about the tunnels beneth an old hospital near where i lived before. As a kid i would sneak down deep in the tunnels, they look EXAKLY like in the game...so i kinda had a deejavu there.

Btw, is the game choppy for anyone ells? I am miles above the requirement but sometimes it seems choppy!

yes. I'm getting a very low framerate. I also have a weird bug where the bloom shows up 3-5 feet above the object that it is supposed to be on, giving everything a weird ghostly look.

uhm...I think I just completed it...obviously it isn't done....or maybe it is and that's just all there is too it...but that seems a little weird.

anyways I thought it was pretty good and fairly scary. pretty good graphics and light FX good sound, fun/different way to interact with objects, ok puzzles.

Was it supposed to end that way?

SPOILER

With the unconsciousness in the red room?
Considering how many times the game crashed, I'm not sure what to make of it kicking me to the menu at that point.

It's a pretty decent game for freeware, but I'm not a fan of how they made the traditional survival-horror mistake:

Including only one solution to any given problem when multiple other solutions are obvious!

Example:

Your only weapon against the monster things is dynamite and scripted traps - even though you come into direct contact with ten pickaxes, a jar of acid, several flares, a can of gasoline, lanterns, a sturdy metal pipe, and a variety of other weaponizable items.

The acid can eat through a rusty lock but not a rusty ventilation hatch or a wooden door.

Plus that's the weakest dynamite in the universe. Three sticks can't kill the only enemy in the game, and can't destroy any object.

I'm playing it right now (but it crashed, so I'm taking a break :p). Good atmosphere, although I'm often getting quite low framerates. Turning motion blur off helps a little, but it adds much to the atmosphere so I decided to put it back on.

Cool, I like it.

Choppy-ass framerate on low res though... and that flying butt-demon keeps pwning me, can't close the doors quick enough :x

How the hell do you kill the second flying thing?

Ooh, I just started it up, and I reeeally like it so far. The interaction system is so cool- it's like a combination of an FPS and an old point-and-click, like Myst. The writing is clumsy, and they could use an editor, but it just shows that most of their attention has been diverted to the actual gameplay, which is very nice.

if you guys go and register on their forums their having a poll to gauge interest of possibly releasing mod tools and such for the game. so go vote!!!!

Can someone upload this to a torrent site or something, I hate dial-up so much, it'll take a few days, and my dial-up is off during the day...

im stuck in the part where there is this flying creature blasting thru the door. i killed him in 3 dynamties but when i got out of the room, i died. i cant even kill that lil mofo again with 3 dynamites... how do u open the vents? i saw them in the beginning but still haven figured out how to open it...

I will let you know in 40 min my opinion on this game :|

nvm, i killed the mofo. now im at the part where i just got the key card. where should i go to get the code?

Has anyone finished it yet? I'm not terribly far along, but, expecting a FPS, my interest has dwindled (not fond of puzzle games like this). On their web page is this screenshot of some hideous thing. Did anyone get to that yet? This creeps me out too much. The Thing meets Silent Hill.

Haha. I'll have to try it out just so I can see this flying butt-demon.
