In general, what would you like to see in games that haven't been done before. We're finally seeing these hybrid type games come about with RPG elements that are just making a new selection of gaming more widely available but at the same time gamers never had so many options both from the hard core crowd and casual markets. You got every genre covered these days and many could say that games are starting to pile up left and right in stores across the globe that are becoming rather same old same old.

What I'd like to know is, what ideas should be implemented that haven't come to fruition yet. It might be an idea that got briefly touched in one game you liked as a kid, or something you've rarely seen in todays games.

I'd like to see some High Def motion technology take place in the battlefield. Lets say with the game MAG (kinda meh looking game btw), I am the medic (assuming they make that role) and my friend is the soldier class. He get shot in the neck and his blood sprays everywhere onto my helmet and gun because I'm right next to him. Do I shoot the sniper first, or do I drag my friend around the corner and using the motion sticks heal and dress his wounds just like in Trauma Center?? I think that would be an amazing feat and I wouldn't even have to leave the couch or stand up like most people end up doing with the Wii. It could be both realistic and fun without hurting gameplay at all because the hardcore guy could be playing with the casual dude and both are having fun.

Also not too many games feature the blood and guts as Soldier of Fortune once did or games like Gears of War when you chop someone up. In battle there is a lot of blood, pools of blood and honestly I'd like to see a little more gruesomeness that makes you feel queezy.

Any ideas from you guys??

Very nice thread idea.

I had loads of ideas as a kid, but not one of them pop into my head ATM.

I will update.

You control a PMC/Mercenary force in a country currently engauged in a civil war. There are a few major factions (for example, the current government and a rebelloius general attempting to overthrow them) as well as small factions, who don't have a specific interest in who wins the conflict but have been caught in the cross fire and now have to go on (for example trans nationals who have interests there, NGOs, smugglers, other mercs, etc). You are free to aliagn yourself with any of the factions involved and take on contracts from them.

These contracts could include directly combatting the opposing faction, VIP protection, training troops, weapons aquisition, intelligence gathering, logistical support and so on. You must also consider your reputation among the factions. It would not reflect well on you if, say, the leader of faction x got slotted while under your protection. Or a fiercely nationalist force may be less inclined to do business with you if you've undertaken security contracts with a trans national they want out.

You must also manage your public relations, if you are too involved in direct combat you may risk international censure, if you execute enemy prisoners you should not expect mercy from the opposition, if the world press turns thier attention to this dirty little corner of the world you may face an arms embargo, etc. If you do get an arms embargo placed on the conflict you will need to get around it adding another challenge. Similar mechanics should be in place for escalating the level of equipment in the conflict (say the game starts with both factions pretty much only having infantry and jeeps/cars/technicals but you [and, of course. the other factions if you don't stay ahead of the curve] can bring in heavy kit like tanks, helicopters, APCs, more advanced infantry weapons, etc. But make sure you've got the necessities to keep them running and that you've got men trained to use them). Or in the worst or best case scinario, depending on who's side your on, some actions might even instegate an intervention from an outside power, which could range from UN peace keepers to a country pulling thier nationals out, using military force to facilitate it to a full blown entry into the war.

In additon, make sure your mercs are happy and paid, they will react poorly to pay cheques that bounce, high attrition rates, losing battles, etc. If you don't your mercs morale will drop and they'll be less effective in combat, really screw up and they'll leave or maybe even mutiny!

You will also need to procure weapons, ammunition, equipment, spare parts, rations and the other odds and ends needed to keep your little show on the road as well as that most important of things, money. You can take on contracts, scavenge from your defeated foes, trade (arms dealing, smuggling, commoditiy exchange, etc), threaten those who have it and so on to get what you need

Combat takes place in the first person perspective with a similar style to Red Orchestra. While you are free to engauge in combat yourself you can also order your troops about in real time as well as making a battle plan before combat begins (allowing you to concerntrate on shooting stuff). Or you can leave it to the AI if you just want to fight without having to worry too much about your whole force's plan. When not in combat there is a strategic map which operates in real time, similar to Mount & Blade with various locations such as towns, villages, military bases, oil fields, drug plantations, etc

Far Cry 1 without Trigens and in the Crysis engine.

MMOFPS + Battlefield 1942 level realism and soldier/vehicle mix + Sim City city building elements and economy + diplomacy/espionage + a natural resources engine used for mining and crafting + a physics based crafting system for weapons, vehicles and buildings where the resource quality, mix, properties and design have an impact on the final product.

You join a nation. 10 nations per server, 5 continents. Resources of different quality and quantity scattered throughout that need to be found and mined and refined, protected or taken. No classes you're just a person, you can fight as a soldier, buy vehicles to fight with and transport things, buy buildings to craft and earn money and sell goods. Nationwide decisions are voted on or a leader is elected.

Blah, blah, blah. Just a really quick idea that would be cool IMO.

I always wanted to see an MMORPG where there are real players who can go all the way to the top and have super powers. like Thrall from World of Warcraft but actually be much much stronger than anyone else in the game. there would also be 3 or 4 factions to chose from not just one or the other...so it would constantly keep things interesting. i think EVE has something similar but it would be nice to see a MMORPG with the real in game leaders and lots and lots of PvP which would give you a ton of XP and maybe some Role Playing servers for those who like the grind. That and making houses and buildings like LEGO with lots of customization. Think SPORE but with a shitload of people at your side. you can make Walls around a fortress, set up sentry guns, shit like that

I just want Planetside, but better.

do you guys never learn ffs?
creativity doesn't work in the mainstream market.

just listen to yourself...you're just going over and over same ideas but with a little addition here and there.

you know what i'd like to see...it may turn out a bit ironic...but still

anyone ever played the game Exodus 3010 on the amiga, or emulator?
if you haven't here's a quick summary.

basically you're in charge of a space ship with frozen people in "search" of a new home after earth was made uninhabitable by a cataclysmic event.
through the game you have to solve puzzles, deal with funny aliens, produce equipment needed for survival, research new stuff and obviously fighting.
sure the game has it's major flaws...like being so ****ing hard i've spent two days on it and i'm still on 1/4 of it...but hey, it's from 1993.

i'd so love to see a remake of this game with modern technology. like...wing commander and X-games merged together plus strategy gameplay.

this would constitute as a new idea...not like your ideas
"hey, i want a game where i can be a sniper where the gun actually moves while aiming and yes...i want to see blood when i hit someone"
hey...blood has been in games until sometime before 2003, maybe 04. we actually want something that we already had...****ing PG-13.

sorry bout this rant, but it's that time of year when i manage to get my hands on an old game that entertains me more than a large portion of nowadays games.

oh and if you want a "newer" game to explore...try "Venom" or it's other name "Codename: Outbreak"...ahead of it's time, but sadly poorly executed. such a shame, cause it really was an engaging game.

just for kicks if anyone remembers

Exodus 3010

Codename: outbreak (i have to get this game somehow...i only played the demo)

pretty much Red Orchestra, but with muskets in the civil war.

you guys are such boring tools

oh, and seems that Codename outbreak was made by the same guys as STALKER...

I'm working on an advanced FPS engine. "Project Ozone". Like a successor to the Source Engine.
Features:
Water physics
Advanced version of the .mdl format for models.
Hi-Res textures
Low-Ping (yet realistic) physics, by synchronizing the player's physic movements with the server in real-time.
Support for map extensions (.ozme)
Easy to use level editor
Make Retail-Like Mods on the engine
Easy Cutscene Maker
Make your own weapons, and use them in your own mod/map.

TBH, there is no proof at the moment.
I'm planning this for when I get out of college, and have my gaming/computer programming degrees :D

I'm just planning the engine, and figuring out what it' main features will be, how to make it unique, etc.
For now I'm just setting up the storyline, and the maps for a game called Ozone, which I will publish on that engine.

I'm actually making a book called Ozone, since I can't program the game right now.

Not to be confused with the Earth's Ozone Layer

An online/offline RPG that is played entirely from a space ship. The view is not inside the cockpit, but from the top, like classic arcade shooters, but in ultra high resolution and with cutting edge graphics.

You can upgrade your ship with superior weapons, tracking, radar, thrust, maneuverability, shields, and available evasive maneuvers and you will be able to explore different planets, destroy enemies in deep space and raid colonies and civilizations in the atmosphere of new planets, destroying and looting these colonies as well as the enemy resistance fighters that protect them.

You get experience points by destroying enemies and I'd say probably that the maneuverability upgrades will be activated by pressing shoulder buttons or something. These upgrades will be unlocked by gaining experience points instead of by purchases, unlike with weapons, shields and propulsion.

When you get technology upgrades you will be able to leave the solar system, and eventually the galaxy, which opens up new technology advancements. For example, you could analyze enemy fighters and take that data to upgrade shops. You can discover new metals and alloys to use for superior hull upgrades.

Online, you should be able to form raiding parties. You won't be starting your own colonies though, so humans will unite against computer controlled enemies, meaning, you won't be fighting other players.

For anyone who hasn't played Full Spectrum Warrior you take control of a squads of infantry rather than one character. You can issue orders to move, take cover, fire, use supressing fire, toss grenades etc. This sounds like an RTS but the camera is kept next to the squad the whole time.

My idea is a MP game using this system, except with two opposing teams and different type of squads to choose from. The game would have WWI (or perhaps WWII) era technology. Squads include riflmen/grenadiers, mortars, heavy machine guns, snipers & sappers.

Objective is to take enemy base. Bases are defended by trenches and heavy gun possitions manned by NPCs. There are also NPC medics.

If i'm honest i feel the 'game' element of games is missing and nothing 'new' is needed, we just need good, individual games to come out not EA spawned rubbish.

Sure we've got physics allowing you to build thing and smash things, we've got graphics to look at, we've got realistic sound effects, simulation and AI.
It's all just gimmick and none of it matters if you're just walking around blasting enemies.

It's all just 'toys' that you become bored of, after a little while you become 'fazed', you lose focus with your eyes and you are bored.

Real gameplay is achieving something, really involving gameplay

Immersion isn't achieved through good graphics or sound it's about involving you in the game so you forget about the real world.
