Donations are voluntary, but greatly appreciated and if you decide to do so then they thank you in advance.

Hopefully the Radio Broadcasts will be a big hit. We would love to hear feedback, so feel free to send them an email. Also, if you have any questions or comments regarding the radio station you can contact them at [email protected] or [email protected].

Mirror and more information can be found here.

Small update: Qonf doesn't plan on broadcasting the "talk show" and music until about a month from now.

If there are enough requests through that website, Qonf will do a show an upcoming evening. It takes 15-20 songs to make up an hour, and he'll be happy to do that every night if there's a demand. You'll be notified through this thread when there's a show.

sexy fresh
I think we all know who won't be a host :p

[edit] More information:
I’d like to do a music show every night until we get the talk show aspect of the ground. My current schedule for the talk show is a couple to a month. It’s going to take a lot of arranging to get the talk show around. As it stands now, we have about 3 people listening on my feed and anywhere from 2-5 on Fliko’s mirror. This is pretty good, but I won’t upgrade the space available until we start filling that up. Seeing as there is only eight people listening, the talk show won’t be off the ground for awhile. I realize that just music for an hour a night is bland, but it’s what I can do for now. If you don’t like the music, request and get your favorites played. This project, which really wasn’t a project at the start, is taking off faster than I could ever imagine.

Follow the request link on the site to request. Once I feel there’s enough songs to fill up an hour or so, I’ll post (or one of my minions until the 22nd) that there will be a show. Or I can just do one once a night with my library. Or I could do music theme nights. I really need opinion, because it is for my audience. Your voice will be heard.

If you want to spearhead a night as a DJ, contact me and we can get it set up.

Nothing says radio like HalfLife2...

Wait, what?

PS I suspect this is a cheap way to promote your shitty clan.

I think it's a great idea and I look forward for Hl2.net radio

I thought this thread was closed.

Wow Yorick, if you only realized how far you were from what is actually happening. Did you even read the posts? If you did then your still as ignorant as you sound, as the |AERO| Clan is doing well and does not desperately need promotion. Thank you for not supporting the radio broadcasts and have a great day.

Lol, the radio was not made because of the clan, the guy just offered his site to help give the radio a little web space.

Don't get ahead of yourselves.

You don't actually have permission, you can't tag 'Hl2.net Radio' as yours and the chances are you won't be getting permission. Run your own radio, call it what you like, but you won't be calling it Hl2.net radio. You didn't even ask?

I'm afraid I have to back Samon up on this one.

And I'm going to support Ennui on this.

You know what that means. CASE ****ING CLOSED.

I support 6Three on this one.

You should ask for permission to use the name. As any problems might fall into hl2.net responsibility, when they have nothing to do with it. Even if nothing does go wrong you can't steal someone's brand to promote a radio of yours.

Let's talk about ignorant then.

You're starting up a radio station which is meant to appeal to "everyone". The problem with this is the same problem that hits mainstream radio. You know, with the knobs and the frequencies. You can't appeal to everyone. In the course of one hour of music, at least some of your listening audience will be annoyed.

It's called "Niche Marketing". You want to find a small group of people who will be interested in your product. If you try to appeal to everyone, you'll find that less people are interested. People already have radiostations they enjoy.

Now, completely aside from that flaw, why would someone request music for a radio station they're listening to at the computer? Between the illegal P2P programs, iTunes, and torrents, people can get virtually any music they want, and listen to it at any time.

Back when radio first came out. It was the "Top 40 songs" that were played on it. That's how jukeboxes worked and such. These days it's closer to 23 for radio stations. All of the songs are loaded up on the computer based on what's popular and what the station is going for. When you hear someone call in to request something, it's music that the station is already playing. They say "We'll try to get it on for you in the next hour" because it's already programmed in and they want you to keep waiting around for that song. Think about a metal station. If I call them up and request Barry Manilow, they're not gonna put it on the radio. Because they know their listeners don't WANT that.

Oh, and the "clan master" so kind as to host your site is a retarded toolbox.

Holy cow Yorick, have you had a bad day? You're takign this way too seriously. My god dude :p

It's completely for fun. It's a request radio so that for the few listeners that do listen, they can request what they want and eat an internet cookie knowing some kid with a 60KBS upload speed played his song on an internet radio.

:p

Calm down now.

I was irritated on being called ignorant by a moron who felt it necessary to bother me on MSN.

Plus there's the talk radio aspect, which will be nice for the more intellectually-inclined members.

Come on Samon, don't be such a tightass. An official HL2.net radio is a great idea; not only is it interesting and original, but it seems like a great way to raise the general level of community spirit this place has been missing for a while.

Good work Q, keep this one alive.

Oh, and Yorick, if you're going to be a ****, then grab your vagina, and get the **** out.

haha, seconded.

Don't make this nasty, guys. We can talk about it, but not if you're going to act like this.

That applies to Yorick, too, by the way. Let's be mature about it?

This is actually quite entertaining. Carry on!

PS I think she'd prefer it if you referred to her as "Samantha". Women are more than vaginas you know.

Pm me pics plz.

Would there be as much negative friction if we called it something along the lines of HL2.NET Fan Radio?

I'm not sure how much people on "my side" (I suppose I can refer to this as such) want this to be the official forum station.

Borgasm has a very good point. Sure Qonfused is sorry for not asking permission to use the name, but I dont see why the concept of a community radio for HL2.net is not wanted? We have tried SEVERAL times here to do something that brings the community together, and now that we have something, you are striking it down? Calling it "stupid"? The only argument I can see against this is that the staff is angry at Qonfused for not asking permission, and they won't allow it just out of anger. Which is just silly and stubborn.

Pm me pics plz.

I have some great n00d plumper porn pics, pm me for the links ;)

SixThree: k i hope you are serious about the pics
SixThree: link me plz
bryanf445: are you serious?
SixThree: would i log into xfire just to chat?
SixThree: hand em over

wtf!

I've spoken with Samon heavily regarding the radio. I've brought up all points and we've agreed that it would be in both the staff's and community's interest to have a STAFF OWNED radio station, in order for it to be named HL2.net Radio. Staff owned simply means official hosting, and official scheduling. The community will obviously be a very large part of the show, as guests/segment hosts/etc. The goal of this project is to bring the community together, and there is no reason any steps that would benefit this goal should not be taken.

Ok. I'm going to lock this until further notice. We'll try and come to some sort of agreement in the morning with an Admin. For now, I'm going to remain firmly tightassed and say no, you can't use the Hl2.net name.

And I'd be pleased if you all stfu regarding porn, stupid spam, silly lol seconded posts, ****s/vaginas and anything with 'gtfo out' in.

Have a nice day.

Discussion time. Any flames, any insults, anything off-topic and the post gets deleted and the poster gets a lovely infraction. If you can't stay civil, then say nothing.

You can't run a radio station and use the site's name (or the logo, which I notice is now on the aeroclan site. Tsk.) without express permission from the site owner - Munro. I don't presume to speak for him, but I think it's a bad idea. People are going to automatically associate your station with the site. What happens when one of your radio hosts says something stupid? Or contentious? Or slanderous? We would take the flak for it, no matter how much you stated that you weren't official.
Without some sort of site-sanctioned quality control/moderation (and god knows how that would work), it just doesn't seem feasible.
Of course, Munro has a history of ignoring the staff and making silly decisions anyway, so you may yet get your wish.

Also:

Just the kind of person to run a radio station affiliated with the site that he obviously loves so much.

You've whipped away the site logo and name without permission.

I doubt even Munro will go with this one.

Two comments.

1) What, exactly, are the possible consequences of HL2.net taking "flak" predicated on something uttered during the talk radio portion?

2) Just because someone spams and trolls does not mean he or she doesn't love a forum and [most of] its members.

i agree with whatever samon and pi said

it's laughable that people don't seem to know or care for the legal matters behind this sort of stuff

1) More unnecessary, unwanted crap for us to deal with. Say the radio host pisses off (inadvertantly or otherwise) the users on another forum. Who has to deal with the inevitable backlash? Not the radio hosts. "hl2.net radio" doesn't represent the site in any way, shape or form, but the general populace won't see it that way. Also, look up "slander"
2) So the public face of "hl2.net radio" is a guy who he's been banned from the forums. Such a great way to present yourself.

I don't think the radio is going to be the "holy grail" of staff/community bonding that some of you guys think it's going to be. The staff has pretty much already voiced their distaste for it, and I think even if it went through most of them would just plain forget about it.

As a totally uninformed member of this community that we are interested in bonding I believe that it's a great idea. Perhaps you'll have to jump past the legal matters in this whole thing (I guess you won't call it Halflife2.net radio, it'd just be a radio station that just so happens to appeal to the exact same demographic and audience that halflife2.net/forums appeals to) but I feel it would be a good way to get to know other people on these forums over the lovely medium of not-text.

Also radio shows.

Radio shows good.

it'd just be a radio station that just so happens to appeal to the exact same demographic and audience that halflife2.net/forums appeals to

What does that even mean? How can a game have the same demographic as music? Half-Life 2 doesn't appeal to some people just like the music isn't going to appeal to some people. I don't want to sound insulting, Jintor, because I don't know you. This is just the kind of thing that's going on in this thread that's driving me up a wall.

When you're making a radio station you have to appeal to a much more defined demographic than a game. Half-Life 2 has things in it that appeal to people ages 12 to 50 that like first person shooters. People between ages 12 and 50 listen to very varying types of music.

Is the radio going to drastically change song to song from Dr. Dre to Garth Brooks to Muse to Three Doors Down to Beethoven to Justin Timberlake to In Flames?

It seems to me like this idea hasn't been properly researched at all, which is where my first comment about it being used to promote the clan came from. You cannot possibly make one single radio station that appeals to everyone. If it was possible, one would already exist.

Add the word "Unofficial" to the title, and you'll be in a slightly clearer neighbourhood.
