New installation problems

Hi
ive install HL2 for the second time in 12 months
the first time with no problems, but now OMG
steam installs fine then Halflife i then reboot, try to run steam it tries to update for 30 second then closes, then iam unable to run HL2 or steam, i double click steam and HL2 but with nothing happening.
task manager says it running but it not on the bottom right of the task bar...

if someone could shed some light on this i would appreciate it very much

my system is
P4 3gig
1.5meg ram
ATI 1950 pro 512meg
120gig HD

later drivers all round
and the latest directx

Ok, umm...your computer couldn't run your OS if you only had 1.5 megabytes of RAM. I think you mean 1.5 Gigabytes and next time you install don't install steam, or try installing steam before HL2 and if that doesn't work then call them up or post this in the right section, it would be in help and support.

if hl2 was a door, steam would be the key..no way around..now will someone more experienced with hl2, answer his question..
