Their new game is...

Minecraft :|

It's filler untill they have the time to resume making "proper" videos. They've said it themselves that this will in no way replace the normal format.

Watched it yesterday. Or rather skimmed through it (after watching the first "day") looking for a creeper scare or something, but didn't find one.

At one point in the video I noticed that they were playing on Peaceful, yet Mesh heard a skeleton somewhere, so I'm not sure if they played like that from the beginning or not.

Ugh, groan at Minecraft and groan at them tossing in the words "Let's Play" like everybody ****ing else.

Mesh screamed all the way through HL2 (and not just ravenholm) and about shit himself playing Doom 3. I can't even imagine what extreme levels of sheer pants-pissing terror he would experience playing Amnesia.

New game tease:-

Clearly Amnesia, gonna be awesome!

Um, Frictional asked them not to use their game in their video, so unless that changed then its not Amnesia.

EDIT: Suppose I should source my statement. http://www.mackandmesh.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1522.Oh and it looks like the last post by Mack in that thread was on Saturday reaffirming that Frictional said no to them, so im quite certain its not. Perhaps one of the Penumbra games though?

It has the same door sound, and the picture in the background is from Amnesia. Unless they're doing a complete cocktease and playing something like Dead Space 2 it's Amnesia.

Who are Mack and Mesh? Is it like a mack daddy who gets pressed through a sieve?

It's Amnesia, no doubt. Guess they must have gotten permission after all? I don't really see why Frictional would refuse them.

Sorry Krynn, unless they are trying really hard to piss off their fans it's Amnesia, like Sliver said the background picture at the end is Amnesia artwork.

Well, then that could be what they're doing. The post from Saturday by a random poster on their site:

i swear this has gotta be a conspiracy.

overwhelming support to do a certain game, so if they did amnesia, NO ONE would be surprised, and it would just be expected. makes for a great series, but ho hum as far as a big surprise unveil.

but then, if they say that permission is denied, everyone loses hope for it at least in the short term. then after much silence and no hope for amnesia, there's a giant unveil with an hilarious teaser video and all the fans get the big surprise. plus, see that wink at the end of the post?

</tinfoilhat>

Then Mack posts:

They said no and thats it really, sorry if I misled you with my post, I was just trying to be funny with the reference to the Mesh Comes Back video and our chat to the Prime Minister

So either way they're trying really hard to piss off their fans. Not that they probably have many left after the minecraft boredom.

Or maybe it isn't Amnesia, but Penumbra considering the former was denied. If they make a topic saying they cannot play a specific game then I think they mean it, myself and other members posted on the topic saying they should play it anyway but they weren't having it. Also the minecraft videos were a great idea as Mack and Mesh stated in a recent video against all the comments made against them on youtube, that because they don't have to edit them or anything, they can literally get around three videos in an hour or two's worth of gameplay and just throw it on youtube and it gives people something to watch. They said the process of making the proper 'Mesh does...' series involves a lot of hard work and time and that why videos come once a week if we're lucky, so its either the minecraft videos in between, or nothing at all until the next series. Just seems either way, fans will complain, despite not even acknowledging the sheer amount of work they put into this and that videos are free with the addition that they ask for nothing in return.

Its not like they give a shit anyway, they do this because they enjoy it at the end of the day.

I think it's okay at this point to admit that "it's free" isn't a very compelling reason to watch anything on the internet.

Anyway, I have no doubt the sounds in that trailer are from Amnesia (how could I possibly forget :(). So either they're trolling us by saying it isn't Amnesia, or they're trolling us by implying that it is. Why do I get the feeling this will backfire on them a bit.

Ah but with the amount of money they have to spend on new gear, and on a computer to keep it up to date, and with the sheer amount of time and effort that goes into every video, the fact that they don't demand a penny back for their videos is bloody good of them.

And well as I've already said, I don't think they care (if they are just trolling) either way, they are just out to have fun. I mean in their latest Minecraft videos, they brought in a guy to help them mine and build stuff as part of a prize draw, and then at the end of the video they sent him into their hut and blew it up with TNT, simultaneously kicking him from comms server, and Mesh just went 'Well thanks to *name of person* for all his help today lol pwned...', and to be honest it was absolutely hilarious. The long and short of it is, even if they piss off some fans, those fans are still going to watch the videos and they know that.

If I were a game company who had a horror game, I would give them a free copy to do a video on. I thought Dead Space was a console game which it is but doesn't feel like your typical console game. So when Dead Space 2 was coming out I was compelled to buy it. Mack made his IMO best video with Dead Space, it got great reviews and Dead Space was on sale for $5 and Dead Space 2 was $60. I got it and Dead Space 2 was even better than the first. The whole point I'm making is that they are making genuine video reviews of these horror games and Visceral gained some money from me and a fan of their studio. They are not faking anything. AVP on the other hand was just terrible.

They actually held a poll on their forums asking whether a video had influenced them to buy the game it was showcasing and most said it already had. Developers would be crazy to deny them access to play their games, especially with the sheer amount of people who watch their videos on youtube.

There's no way Frictional would say no. There's already tons of walkthroughs on YT that haven't been removed for copyright. It's just some marketing from them, and it's working.

God you're a fanboy. Yeah, developers would be crazy not to give a free game to people who get 3-4 thousand views on youtube in 3-4 months! By that logic developers should be giving out hundreds of free copies to random shmucks on youtube, and I should have 24 copies of Day of Defeat Source.

Even if they're not giving free copies, the videos could be spoiling important parts of games that don't have much re-playability, and thus might be more likely to discourage sales than encourage them.

I was trying to point to the fact that the internet is a marketplace of competing ideas, the vast majority of which are free. They're quite welcome to try charging for their content, but somehow I don't think that'd earn them many favours.

That's not to say free for the user means unprofitable for the creator, of course. They probably do alright with advertising and t-shirts and junk.

I saw their Doom 3 videos.. I thought they were retarded.

I guess there's something for everyone out there on the internet.

God you're a fanboy

And? :p I've been following them since they started and when barely anyone watched their videos, I think that gives me a right to be honest.

And I wasn't saying developers should be giving them free games, I was merely pointing out fans of their videos have declared that their videos have caused people to go out and buy the games, so by that logic it would be stupid for any developer to refuse them access to their games when the idea could give them potential sales. And if their huge spoilers in the gameplay in regards to plot etc they usually put it at the start of the video.

They have followers in the thousands and for people, including people on this forum, to be following them since 2004 says a lot. Plus I somehow make money from Google Adsense on some of my cruddy 30sec welding vids. I tell people I'm a youtube or internet star. :p

Watching him playing games that involve opening doors and solving puzzles is so infuriating. Videos should pick up next week when
actual enemies show up.

You know, I actually used to like these video's when he'd play the game properly. Now he spends too much time dicking about doing stupid shit when all you want is to see him shit himself. This video is a perfect example, pulling the heads of armour to try and delay any thing actually happening. JUST GET ON WITH THE GOD DAMN GAME!

So the whole thing with Frictional forbidding them to use their game in the series was bullshit? What was the point?

So true. Before their break the videos seemed more interesting and had something going on in them. Now there's more of dicking around and not knowing what to do. Sometimes I just facepalm at how long it takes them to figure something out (the stasis puzzle in Dead Space 2 is a prime example).

Hah, Mack and Mesh does... furniture throwing.

Did they say how many videos they were doing?
Honestly, I have a worrying feeling we're going to see them spending half the time of the video trying to solve some of the puzzles later on, with nothing much interesting happening.

I don't mind it when they dick around. Usually the banter is interesting enough to keep me around. I'm just glad hes doing a good game again.

To piss people off for no reason I guess. They pretty much admitted as much in their forum.

dont think amnesia is the right kind of "scary" for mack and mesh videos

Yeah they had their time in the spotlight but you pretty much summed it up. Now it's all Minecraft, ughh.
