Hi all,

I need help with a problem I have with my map. I have done a conversion of the MOHAA map 'The Hunt'. It works fine for me ... but when a few of my friends have tried to play it (to playtest it) they get an error message telling them to 'inform programmer to increase the Verts buffer'???

I have no idea how to fix this ... can anyone help?

The map is a defuse map for CS:S. Here are a few screenies:

Any help will be appreciated ...

Thats a very nice looking design you have got there, cant help witht he question atm, but I will look into it quickly.

Sounds to me (an inexperienced mapper) like you have too many vertices in your map. Try getting rid of some of the trees, or optimize your brushes.

Just a question, how long did it take to compile when you got to vvis? If it took forever, try making some brushes func_details and such, it might help, like stigmata said.

you are useing the vertex minipluation tool to much you should have a big number after that message in box like 72000>24000 or what ever

and you should try like saving it as a new file and change that file with using the vertex tool less

Thanks for the advice lads ... I'll give them all a try. The scary thing is, myself and another friend have NO problems with the map ... its only a few of the others who have tried it!!!!

are their pc's as good as yours?
maybe theirs cant "handle" the vertices??
gr8 map btw!

1. Using the vertex manipulation tool does not add vertices to that brush, if anything it probally deletes some as you merge verts.

2. Normal brushes have vertices too, 8 for a standard cube brush. A standard cube brush that has been modified with the vertex manipulation tool where no verts have been merged also has 8 vertices.

3. You error message is not comming from having too many vertices on your brushes, but from having too many models.

4. The reason you might not recive the error message is because you have a higher end computer that can handle all the model, while your friends that do recive the error message probally have lower end computers.

5. To fix the problem, delete alot of those models they are unecessary and will just slow down, or as you have seen, cause your map not to run for some people.

6. Your map looks okay, but adding more detail in your brushwork will make it even better. You shouldnt try to use props and weather effects as a crutch when mapping, they are there to enhance your map, not cover up the bad parts. Good brushwork still is and always will be the base of a good map.
