New Mario Galaxy footage

Yeah, it looks good. Interesting that Mario can turn into a Boo and Bee.

This video just made Galaxy my most anticipated game.

That was far better and more imaginative than I was expecting.

I guess I can make room between GTA4 and Assassin's Creed.

Boo Mario
Bee Mario

Boo
Bee

BooBee

BOOBIES

Using my amazing logic, I'm excited.

Bee Mario is possibly the most disgustingly cute thing to appear in a video game.

Its a mea?

This will be so much fun - screw Halo 3, this is the title that has brought and will bring so many people to a console.

Looking good, im not dieing for the game, but it is a must have for the wii.

This looks awesome. I can't wait. Looks like Mario will innovate once again. the controls look absolutly mind-blowing and, hey, the game looks superb also.

Just think, in this second half of the year, we're going to get a new Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3(my star of the show) and Mario Galaxy. God bless you Nintendo.

I've seen some PS2 games prettier than that!

And don't tell me that gameplay is more important, that looks pretty stale too. It's the same run-jump mechanic as every other Mario game. I have yet to see one distinguishing feature that makes this better than other platformers.

The **** you have, the games graphics are amazing, and a notch above most of it's competition.

Asuka said it's just "looking good"... *cancels pre-order*

So according to you, this game (where every edge and polygon is discernible) can compete with Lost Planet, Killzone 2, Crysis or even Little Big Planet graphics-wise? :dozey:

These games aren't on the PS2.

Aesthetically, yes, certainly prettier than some.

This and Metroid Prime 3 are looking so impressive that it is almost making me sick with excitement!!!

You're not kidding. Metroid Prime 3 has me borderline sadistic. I may murder to get my hands on that game...here's the game that should revolutionize FPSs on consoles.

Okay, I exaggerated to make my point: the polygons and edges are too easily visible. It looks like a previous gen game.
Who cares? The game has amazing artistic style which more than makes up for it. (See: World of Warcraft or Starcraft).

Can't wait for this, Metroid and the new Advanced Wars they just announced for the DS. Maybe the graphics kiddies will learn one of these days that not everyone needs top of the line graphics to enjoy video games. Some people like me are turned off by it. The art direction is impressive and that's way more important than polys to me. It could just be me, but the gameplay in Galaxy looks significantly different from other games of this genre and I can't wait to check it out.

I know I could find this out for myself but does anyone know when the zapper comes out in relation to Metroid and whether or not they will be compatible?

*Looks at Mario 64*
*Looks at all other Mario Platformers*
*Looks at Galaxies*
*Realizes it's a lot different*

Nope sadly. Any FPS games that require Wiimote face buttons or independant Nunchuck/'mote actions won't be compatible. It's basically Nintendo's answer to a lightgun - only works in games designed for it.

If it wasn't for the Mario series, Miyamoto and Nintendo, the gaming industry would not be where it is today. You are in no position to bad-mouth it. The graphics are better than anything I saw last gen and from the mouth of some guy at school who is usually less than insightful about this sort of thing: "That looks better than some PS3 games."
If art direction and some genuinely amazing graphics for the hardware used can inspire that sort of reaction in an individual that fits the "graphics over gameplay" demographic, then Nintendo must be doing something right.

You'll still be able to play any game with it. If you look at pictures of the Zapper, all the Wiimote's face buttons are accessible. Fundamentally, all the Zapper is is a different way of arranging the Wiimote and Nunchuk.

Minus the "you are in no position to bad-mouth it" which is pretty much lightly-veiled elitism and flamebait, I agree.

Well in short, I've never seen a platformer with this unique and constantly changing point of view or with this method of control. Both of these elements have an effect on gameplay and opens up new styles of level design and puzzles in the platformer genre. I'm not aware of many other platformers where "up" isn't always "up".

I see where you're trying to go with this question. Yes it's a platformer and yes you're still running around, jumping and solving puzzles. Similarly in FPS games all you do is run around and shoot things. That's like asking "how is Doom 1's gameplay any different than Doom 3's?"

Unless this game has portals it is only half as "innovative"* as prey. Hell, make that one third, considering prey is original IP.

.bog.

* innovative, contrary to popular beliefs, not necessarily the same as fun

Have you watched the videos?

Yes you can access face buttons but it'd be uncomfortable to do so when your right hand is angled as such. And you couldn't play Red Steel with the Zapper. It requires a throwing motion with the nunchuck while aiming with the remote.

Eep. I wasn't trying to start an argument. I hate arguments. I just like the expression. :P Of course he can bad-mouth it but he can't deny the Mario series and its influential nature. I don't think anyone is in such a position.

I didn't say it would be easy to play every game :P

I wasn't trying to start one either, I just try to help the forums cut down on things that might be considered fanboyism, elitism, etc. I thought you were saying that he was in no position to criticize Galaxies, not the influence of the Mario series as a whole. Sorry for the misunderstanding :P

So according to you, this game (where every edge and polygon is discernible) ...

Either you don't know what an "edge" or a "polygon" is in terminology, or you think Killzone 2 etc. are made with "curves" and "awesome-gons".
