New MechWarrior Game?

**** the trailer is awesome, and the new info off IGN sounds great too, it sounds like they're going to do a dynamic MP campaign ala Chromehounds, apparently the game is for 360 and PC, no word on a PS3 version.

3015. :|

Innersphere crap and no option not to use it. Joy.

Halo healing mechs. :| Joy.

Focus on the 360 over PC. Control scheme designed around the Xbox-360 controller. I've got more buttons on my Joystick than on a 360 controller, before we even get into assigning things to keyboard. :|

I call MechAssault 3 until I see some proper gameplay.

I enjoyed the MechAssault 1 and 2 games, sure they weren't MechWarrior, but anything is better than nothing in my opinion.

Also, you can make good mech games for consoles too, like Steel Battalion!:D

Looks awesome.
Atleast it's coming to the PC, I really don't see how you can actually simplify a MechWarrior game.

Also, the trailer has been confirmed as being 100% ingame, which is awesome IMO.

I know, I've owned Steel Battalion since 2004, never managed to finish it though! Campaign's hard as hell!

It will be available for torrent in a couple weeks.

Oh **** yes.
They certainly love their fans.

edit: Aw damn, do really have to wait 2 weeks for them to put it up for download? :(
My heart nearly leaped out of my damn chest after hearing MW4's now free.

They better not **** it up to favor casuals.

Just Presume it will, that way you wont be disapointed if it does.

To be honest I'm already quite turned off by this because its set in the 3rd Sucession war so no Clan mechs and most of the IS mechs I like arn't available.

so is this a prequel?

It's a total reboot of the franchise, they're starting from the beginning to introduce new players without all the complicated story stuff and tech options. I think it's a big step forward (backwards?). None of the previous 3D games have taken on pre-Clan invasion fighting. In totality it's more in-depth than any of the previous games simply because the technology finally allows for the effects and styles you need. The 3-minute trailer out now is not just a cutscene prerender, almost everything you see in the video is going to be in the game.

Oh, and bitch about it, Clan Tech is overpowered anyway and fighting in 3015 brings along the limits of that time period where 'Mechs were prized possessions and passed down over generations. The mentality of that goes along with it, scrapping ravaged 'Mechs for weapons and armor and things like that instead of 'Oh! I have an extra six 'Mechs in my inventory!' your salvage means you get to keep your 'Mech running.

Also, there's been strong hints that Clan tech will become available in MP later.

so is this a prequel?

A "reboot" (as is popular with popular series these days), but pretty much yeah, considering the original Mechwarrior used 3025 configuration 'mechs, apparently. To be honest its probably had its title changed and the clock turned back so the console players wont be confused by the 5 after it (and so they can pump out a few sequels quick with Clan Mechs and later generation IS units so they can cash in on any sucess they have).

I'm still going to sulk about having to use IS crap though. Even if this game does turn out to be awesome thats going to be quite a big downer for me. We wont even get IS crap with knock-off clan tech. If we're lucky there might be a few bits of SLDF surplus kicking about, but its mostly going to be low quality, low damage, high heat & heavy weight kit.

What is this "MechWarrior" you speak of? Is this the new expansion for the Sims?

...okay, actually I'd buy that expansion.

I'm going on vacation soon but when I get back I'm gonna buy the steel battalion controller,,,does anybody have one here? tell me is it that cool to use?

Word of warning. Xbox360 and SB controller is not compatible. The game runs on xbox360 but the controller won't work.

some dude on kotaku said it would work for MW4 on PC.

Anyone here play Megamek?

Also, yes, there are fan-drivers out there that makes the Steel Battalion controller compatible with the PC.

Steel Battalion's controller can never hope to match up against a Battletech tesla pod.

Seven screens.
Eight buttons per screen.
Foot pedals.
Joystick.
Throttle.

Fuck.
Year.

And each one of those Multi Function Displays was linked to a generator or a configuration system before Firestorm. Do you know how ballsy it is to get your myomers shot out during battle and having to divert power from your backup generators to your myomers while rerouting all your weapon systems to your two main generators in order to torso twist, jump, and launch an alpha strike at incoming players who thought you easy pickings?

God I miss that game. It's hard to find one of the old pods that hasn't been dumbed down to Firestorm specs. Damn you Firestorm. Damn you

casuals

I'm well aware of the BT tesla pods, but they are EXTREMELY expensive compared to a Steel Battalion controller, EXTREMELY expensive, simply buying one will cost ya at least several thousands dollars, then not to mention the expertise and technical knowledge to maintain the pod.

That's pretty cool, not surprised though, Weisman's a great guy from what I've heard from friends who have been active in the BT community since its inception!

I already have it though, as well as every single other official BattleTech computer game, DOS and otherwise, including all different editions off the MW2 games, including the 3DFX, DOS, Win95 and Titanium editions!*Shows off nerdiness*

Yeah the 3DFX version of MW2 was amazing, it looked SOOOO good back in the day, I think maybe you can run it these days using a glide-emulator.

Having read some more into the game, I'm starting to get a bit fearful, I think we might see another shitty "take" on the BT universe, much like BT: Dark Ages.

Seeing as they're calling this a reboot, and a reboot implies a remake/rewrite of much of the story.

Also, I'm kinda bummed out about the whole "Oh I was the son of the ruler of this planet but he was deposed and killed and now I must have my revenge!", honestly, I always felt the Mercs games were the best MW games, because they allowed such a more dynamic and evolving story, and more freedom for the player generally.

Sorry but this has Jordan Weisman directly involved, he's the founder of FASA. It's highly unlikely to suck. And the story looks fine to me, it'll at least be better than MW4: Mercs since that game had no storyline, just some vague backdrop to go kill shit.

As for Mechassault? That game is an arcade bastardization of the mechanics of MechWarrior. Lava gun? What the ****'s a lava gun? Oh, and don't get me started on the ****ing powerups! Giant robots can't use 'powerups'!

Well not everything Weisman does is great, I personally thought MechWarrior: Dark Age sucked giant enemy balls!

Someone at work told me all 4 games will be free to download, can anyone confirm this?? also i thought it was only going to be the 4th game to download
