New Nvidia FX Cards previewed...

this goes in the hardware forum, not the HL2 forum.

BTW here is a list of reviews i would trust, notice that it doesn't include toms hardware. (BTW i highly recommend hardocp's PREview, it gives results that are similar to what you would experience in gameplay, rather than in synthetic benchmark play...)

nice assortment of links...

I thought about posting on the hardware forum, but figured more people would see it in general.

BTW I've got a 9800pro already so I'm not in the market for a card, just thought some people here would be interested.

The HardOCP review is rather limited, IMO. Only six games are benchmarked, including some rather unpopular games as Tomb Raider and XIII. At least Tomshardware also benchmarks C&C:Generals, Enemy Territory and BF1942.

The review at Tomshardware is even more interesting because of the ATI driver optimizations it exposes. Perhaps that's the reason you choosed to ignore it? :cheese:

well hardocp's is a PREview, because they arent using a retail board, so it's not exactly what people will get when they buy the board in stores, their REview of the 5700 will be up on monday and it will have more games tested, and their REview of the 5950 will be up whenever they get a Retail 5950.

btw C&C:Generals, bf1942, and RTCW:ET are old tech, hardocp is using (mostly)forward looking games, in addition, i didn't ignore the tomshardware review, but i dont find tomshardware to be reputable source for hardware information.

as for the ati driver optimizations, well i'm not going to touch that until a reputable site chooses to report on it.

What is it with people and tomshardware anyway? i have NEVER found anything biased on that site?

Yeah I was wondering about the same thing. What exactly is wrong with tomshardware? I've only read their graphics card tests but they've always _seemed_ good. Like the shader day hl2-tests, they kept mentioning that they had to use setups provided by Ati/Valve, and couldn't change anything.

if you go read all those reviews...tomshardware seems stupid...it's just a general thing.

i'd much rather read an anandtech or hardocp review than tomshardware...when you read around tomshardware seems to make some crap suggestions and conclusions.

Well not imho, i visit hardocp, anandtech and tomshardware and find them all about equal, i dont get it why people bash tomshardware, seems basless to me.

The things Tom posts under tomshardware.com can be biased, at least they come across that way. And it happend repeatedly with GFX card and CPU reviews. The rest of his reviews are great.
Either he is bias or he is dumb for making benchmarking choices like the hardware he uses etc. e.g. He chose to use 4 sticks of 256MB PC3200 ECC buffered DDR and a SATA PCI expantion card on the FX51 but he used 2 sticks of 512MB DDR and the onboard SATA on the P4EE for his Athlon64vsP4EE review.
btw Intel sponsored him to open tomshardware.com yet he already had a site open under a different url.

He is so biased both towards NVIDIA and INTEL it is not funny.

this is true....ive been reading reveiws there for a few years now....and it does seem biased in favor of intel and nvidia

i dont agree with you guys that you should skip reading there reviews though........

if your spending 2-500$ on a single peice of hardware...read all the reviews you can find. INCLUDING toms......it puts things in perspective.

I like the fact that they bench bf42 and C&C.....those are very widley played real world games.........

Im sorry but its not all about how the cards will perform on games that are not out yet..........todays games are just as important.

from what i have read he is semi biased towards nvidia. which is completely idiotic because in his tests the ati cards outperform the nvidia cards by so much. just read his latest review on the 5950 and 5790 or whatever that is. he tries to limit ati's credibility with the new driver "optimisations". wtf is up with that. he is just trying to make nvidia better than what it is. lol i still have a nvidia card and im extremely disappointed with it. 9800 pro should be here today or tomorow.

Still intrigued at the prospect of ATI cheating too. Maybe they do, maybe the only thing nvidia have done wrong is get caught?

Tom's Hardware might be slightly biased, but I tend to crunch the numbers and not put too much worth in the reviewer's opinion.
