Ok, I started putting all my new stuff in my computer, a new motherboard, processor, and video card. I have the PCI Express Nvidia 7800gt from PNY. The card doesnt have the right jack for my monitor, but it came with 2 adapters (I guess so you can use two monitors, but im only using one) so I can plug in my monitor. I do that, and power up. The monitor does nothing. You know how when you turn off your computer, the monitors power led flashes so you know its in standby? Well thats all it does. The computer itself is all up and running, the fans are spinning (including psu fan, cpu heatsink fan, and 7800gt fan. Im not familiar with pci express, so maybe I installed it wrong, but I cant find out what. I have a psu that has a pci express plug, and I put it in without trouble, but is there something else I have to plug in?

The only other thing I can think of is that the connection from my monitor and the card is not right (meaning the adapters arnt what I think they are) and I know its not the monitor, because the same thing happens when I use my brothers monitor. I really really hope its not a defective card, because I bought it off ebay from some guy (it was new in box, with the plastic wrap still around it and everything, I know for a fact that he didnt shaft me.) PNY gives a 1 yr warranty, that still applies even if i didnt buy from a true retailer right?

(im on break at work now, and my brother's computer is also out of commision so this is my only internet access lol. I may have to go to the public library to read replies :( Im scared of that place.)

1.do you have a powerful enough psu?
2.usually those adapter are dvi to vga adapters
3.if you have onboard it needs to be disabled

1. 430watts, I think thats enough right?
2. DVI to VGA huh? Not sure what that means, could you explain what those two are? On the card there are these two of the same ports that are too large for the connector on the wire from the monitor. Take a look here, and in the pic you can see them. http://www.pny.com/products/verto/performance/7800gt.asp
The adapter plugs into that, and then allows me to plug in the monitor.
3. How can I disable it? I cant see the screen to get into bios. Unfortunately this motherboard only have pci express, and no agp, which means I cant use my old card to get in there either.

Edit: oh and thats for the quick reply.

Edit2: Just found out what you were talking about dvi to vga. Yeah, thats what it is, and my monitor uses the vga type.

so are you saying you fixed it?
also i dont know much about pci-e onboard gfx but i think it disables them automatically once u insert a card you just need to unistall the onboard gfx drivers then it should work fine

It's probably this simple... it has 2 places to plug the monitor into right? Try plugging it into the other slot on the card :)

If that doesnt work and you have Onboard graphics, then plug the monitor into the onboard, go into the hardware manager and disable it. Then plug the monitor into the 7800GT and it should work.

But first try plugging the monitor cable into the other connector.

I dont have onboard graphics. Which unfortunately means that I have a different problem than that.

This is the mobo I have

And yes it has another slot on the card, but it is dvi also. I tried using that one to see if the other was faulty or something, but no dice. It also shipped with 2 adapters, so I tried the other one in both slots, still to no avail. I called up pny, but I guess they dont work on weekends, so I had to leave a message. I am worried though. I have never had a part go bad on me, so I dont know how the warranty works. And of course the ONE part in my life that I bought off of ebay was the 7800gt, is defective. Do I have to have a reciept to get the 1 yr manufacturer's warrenty, so they know I bought it less than a yr ago or something? I mean, its not like I could have possibly had it for more than a year since the card has only been out for what... 7 months or so?
