Staying up for days on end playing HL2 Multiplayer non-stop will do that to ya.

I guess there might be some kind of co-operative multiplayers story mode!?

No, screaming at the top of your lungs - either in frustration or joy - will do that.

shut the hell up Gabe's just doing his job :flame:

im sure gabe plays HL2 MP all day and night at the office yelling "SUCK IT DOWN BIATCH" everytime he gets a frag.

lucky bloke.

Well, nice to see him finally own up to borking the release date. It's also nice to hear that even with the pressure on, they're taking their time to thoroughly test the game and make sure it's as good as it can be.

And I must admit, my interest in the multiplayer is definitely peaked, and I don't normally go for multiplayer games. I'm thinking we'll see something like cooporative, mission based maps where each side has a unique goal that they must complete while trying to prevent the other side from completing theirs.

One of the things we have to do is that we fund our own game development. This has meant that we took all the money we made from Half-Life, and other money we had, and said, "OK rather than going and buying Ferraris, we're going to buy our next game." Everybody at the company had to buy into that.

They put their own money in that project...

And I laugh when he talk about Ferraris...

also, it's good to see Gabe being honest and upfront about screwing up the release date and how the fans feel.
Very much so. I can't describe how much respect I lost for Valve after pulling this stupid stunt of announcing a delay of at least several months just a week before the release. It honestly sounds like he cares in that interview, which for a while I think he didn't.

Why are they so afraid to do something they don't usually do? Why didn't he just come to this forum and put a simple "We're really sorry, we know how you feel, but we're delaying the game to give you the best gaming experience ever." post here. It would mean THE WORLD to fans all over the world. The e-mail Doug sent out was just plain arrogant.

I don't even care what the truth is now, if the game isn't finished, if Steam isn't ready or if nVIDIA found out they had too much money and decided to share some of it with Valve. I just wished that Gabe would acknowledge how much this means to us and now he finally has. The reason they release videos and screenshots and stuff like that is to get us really, really excited about the game. Since they acknowledge they have that power, then they should acknowledge they can easily disappoint us just as much as well.

wtf is the hold up? holiday? my ass thats what they're saying incase "SOMETHING" holds them up until then...

Its their way of saying "well.. we're not sure when we're going to be able to release it yet because "SOMETHING" is holding us back... It can be from anyday until the holiday because we want you to have this before chirstmas!"
I agree - but to be honest they've f*cked up once already and they know it. In their shoes i'd do a similar thing, i'm just hoping that they'll say 'holiday release' then realise it's pretty finished and just say...'next week', that way the wait will be short and sweet.
Bear in mind also that HL1 slipped up just because of some MP server bug, it could be something really small to fix but could have a large effect on the game..... i suppose we'll have to wait and see.

I assume you mean team-based objectives. There will be no coop mode in HL2 (i.e working together playing the 'storyline' game).
Sorry, i know it's pedantic but this is how rumours start :D

Indeed... seeing as they are working with Valve on a version for HL2.

Well that made me feel alot better about Valve, and Gabe for that matter. He finally showed some empathy towards fans and the whole delay fiasco.

It was nice to hear that indeed they are still playtesting (along with localization and hardware tweeking I'm sure) and the game is indeed almost done.

Thinking about what Gabe said about the feedback they get from playtesters and how most games are rushed. If these next 2 months will really make the balance perfect, then I guess it would be worth it.

The MP tidbit was exciting to hear. Obviously it's got to be something really unique, and the physics applications it could really be groundbreaking. I'm sure they'll save a bit more bang for TF2 and CS2 though.

Nice to finally hear something out of Gabe's mouth post 9/30.
