New Q&A with gabe

niiice :) thx

You have been tight lipped about multiplayer from the start... is there anything you can tell us? C'mon!

Prepare to taste the future.

I have no idea what that means.

You will.

:D! cant wait ;x

Yeah I read part of that earlier. Fragmaster, also known as the leader of the "OMG THEY CHANGED THE RELEASE DATE ON HL2 NEWBIES", called the article a hoax. Why is this guy such a sadistic pessimist about anything that has to do with HL2?

First things first. Release date. What the hell is up with that?

You see the thing is we realized there was a typo in one of the subtitles about 3/4 of the way through the game. "The" was horribly misspelled "teh". The writer responsible has been fired, and the game is now slated for a December release.

LOL

"We've implemented a system very similar to Windows Product Activation, which prevents you from installing the same copy of Windows on more than one PC. In our case, it allows one copy of HL2 per machine. This will hold true for those who purchase it over Steam, and those who buy it in a box at the store. You can activate your copy over the Internet, or by mailing in the activation card that will come with the game. Steam users will obviously have their game activated over the Internet."

Oh shit man ... does this mean you will have to connect and activate your game before you can play singleplayer and multiplayer Half-life 2 on your comp.?!? Or snail mail the shit ...

multiplayer, prepare to taste the future..

Anyone think they could be hinting at a futuristic version of a current game? Or just a whole new concept in terms of multiplayer gaming?

CS circa year 3000 might be a laugh but with statements like that from gabe i'm hoping for something completely amazing in terms of multiplayer. And before anyone says it I still believe that it will NOT be p2p.

Didn't one of the developers mention in an email that Xen wouldn't be returning as they knew nobody liked it?

They did say on a number of previews that we wouldn't have to visit Xen again in HL 2 ... hmm ... :|

Yeah you're right, they did say zen wouldn't be back, and a price diff between steam and boxed does seem to hint that it's not a genuine interview.

Oh my.

OF course there will be a price difference in the Steam version. Sighs.

I'm not sayig there won't be a proce difference, it's just one of the aspects of hl2 they've always been very reluctant to talk about.

It's a funny interview :D

"Seriously. Or I'll kill you with my thumb."

why doesnt somone send this article to gabe and ask him to see if he actually said those things , i wouod but im off to work =/

ya gotta love this fake interviews.
1 reason it's fake: 99% of allinterviews are conducted via e-mail, so you submit a question this, and then get your answers. You couldn't ask questions based on gab's responses.

Bacause the evidence for it being fake isn't all that convincing either. I'd like to see what Gabe thinks. :b

Maybe, just maybe Valve have decided to gradually give out more information as they get closer to release?

It's fake, there's answers in there that contradict what's already been said.

indeed it is fake but this dependency on steam worries me

Gabe has said repeatedly that you can run Half Life 2 on a friends computer if you buy it over Steam. Just look in the Valve Info Thread. You can only have one instance of it open at any one time because you have to log in with your Steam account.

Gabe said that you would not have to JUMP AROUND on xen like previously. I will see if I can find the link where he said this. He didn't say there will be NO Xen, just not the crappyness of the first.

Your "steam account" is basically a method of tracking your digital rights. If you buy Half-Life 2 in a store, it will ask you to create a login id and a password. That way if you go to a friend's house, you can play Half-Life 2 there, even if you don't have your CD/DVD with you. Think of the CD as an alternative to your Internet connection for filling up your local cache.

[Gabe Newell] You can run Steam from anywhere. You can reinstall it whenever you want. You can go over to your friend's house and play it there. You can play it on vacation in a Mongolian cybercafe. The restriction is that you can only have one instance active at a time.

Also, one of the previews said we would be returning to Xen, the rest didn't.

Hmm i think its real.. theres no reason imho to say its fake, and those who are arent giving any solid proof.

At first, I had the same reservations about steam, and multiplayer will rely completely on it, but I'm pretty confident that if you buy a CD, you won't need to have any dealings with logging into steam just to play the single player game. I'm pretty sure that's been confirmed. I do hope though, that patches etc will be available to download outside steam.

Looks fake to me too.

First of all there is no intro, as to how he got hold of gaben, then who the hell is dusty?

Hello? Anyone there? Gabe has said repeatly that you can install Half Life 2 on a Friends computer. This is not any worse than the CD because you could've installed Half Life 1 on Multiple computers and played Single Player.

Really, the only way to pirate Half Life 2 using Steam someone would have to log into a Steam account of someone who's bought it. Then they would have to download the entire game (so they don't have to be online to play it). Then they would have to disconnect the net connexion just in case someone else logs into the same account. And then they can only play it single player.

Note he doesn't say you cannot install a copy on a friends machine.

He said with steam, you will be able to play HL2 from any computer. That is what he said.

Why would you make something that allows "One copy per machine". I mean, you would be going out of your way to make something that prevents people from installing Half Life 2 twice on their machine. Which I doubt people were going to do anyway. And, if they did, would there really anything wrong?

This actually makes sense. If I install a pirated copy of HL2(I WON'T!), and don't connect to the net, whats to stop me from playing? Thats why you send in the card, and they send you the authorization code.(maybe?) But if I do log on to the net, you would have to log into steam to play SINGLE player also. Anyone know the validity of this website? I have never heard of it before.

Guys, this is fake simply by looking at the HTML code used on the site. The author pretends he accidently messed up the archives of his news (As con to pretend the sites been up for a while) and yet in the HTML docs theres no cgi scripting to support such a thing at all. Upon a more deeper whois search to gain more info on who actualy registered the domain of that site, you get the following:

Notice that the name the person choose when creating the domain is 'Doctor Comedy'. Could that be any more of a dead give away?
You can tell how quickly he made this account, look at the address information. '123 Brick Road'???? Look at the fax number he used! (123) 456-7890! Come on... this is so fake its not even funny. I should report his falsifyed interview to godaddy.com and have the site removed for impersonation or defacing or something.

OK, it is a fake...

Look at this.

What aspect of the game are you most proud of, now that it is virtually complete?

That's a tough one. There are so many new concepts presented in the game that I really can't pick just one. The whole package is something that hasn't been seen in a game before, and I really can't wait until we get a response from our audience. But, if I had to state a definite answer, I would say our Source engine

Gabe would never say his favorite part of the game is the Source engine. The game is RUN on the source engine. He allready answered this question with 1. Physics, and 2. Facial Expressions.

Why would someone waste the time to make a fake interview, which is SO close to the truth? Why not blatantly lie?
Edit: I bet Fragmaster, also known as the leader of the "OMG THEY CHANGED THE RELEASE DATE ON HL2 NEWBIES" is behind this scam. He is so deviant!

If this is real........... Well we are really going to tast the future of MP.........
