New Quake IV details.

Alright I noticed something posted on PQ(PlanetQuake) last night but was to tired to post it so here.

"Earth is under siege by an alien race. The Strogg are cybernetic warriors -- a mechanical frame and decaying body parts stabilized by flesh consumed in a systematic annihilation of other species and civilizations. In a desperate attempt to survive a Strogg attack on Earth, an armada of Earth's finest warriors is sent to take the battle to the Strogg home planet. Earth's initial assault force is nearly annihilated immediately, but one marine manages to infiltrate the base, bring down their planetary defense systems, and kill the Strogg's collective brain and leader -- the Makron. Earth assumed the destruction of the Makron would end it all, but it didn't.

That's where QUAKE II leaves off and QUAKE 4 begins.

The Strogg are quickly regrouping. However, with the Strogg's planetary defenses still destroyed, Earth's forces can deliver a full and final assault. This time, you're not alone. You are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, and part of Earth's next invasion wave. An army of soldiers are fighting with you and an arsenal of weapons and vehicles are at your disposal in this heroic and epic battle between worlds."

Kudos to Gamespy and PlanetQuake for this information. Game looks like it will kick ass!

I don't see what problem people have with D3's performance, and about it not running well on current hardware is bullshit because i can run it fine on my hardware and my computer isn't even fast really, my CPU is a 2.6AMD an X800pro and 1GB ddr400, not exactly what i'd consider 'top line' and as for the real top line hardware running Doom3, they piss all over it (http://www.tomshardware.com/game/20050411/sli_gaming-13.html --- http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040809/doom3-03.html)

If you want to have a 'meh' PC and expect games to made for old hardware don't start complaining because they're made for new hardware, or go buy a console.

good engine = performs well under currently released hardware.

By your standards we'd all be playing our games at 1 fps waiting until the day quantum nitrogen cooled computers were given to us by aliens just so we could play Doom 3 at +20 fps.

Too bad if iD didn't take into consideration their customers when they designed their product, if the engine can't perform under current hardware then it's not very good at all. That doesn't mean I'm implying D3's performance is bad, I'm just refuting your argument attempting to "cushion the blow" to Quake 4 by saying that it it performs badly it's because the "world isn't ready for it"
hows the equilibrium mod going?

From what I remember in the PCGamer US preview a while ago, they have modified the lighting greatly, so you aren't just stuck in small hallways. They have vast outdoor levels with vehicles flying all over, and you are zooming down in a buggy, stuff blowing up around you, etc etc

So it seems they greatly modified it :)

Looks exactly like D3 so far. What's the point in that?

It's the Quake series, no point at all. Looks badass though.

I just finished the DOOM 3 expansion pack and I was in awe the entire time. Its a beautiful game. The engine is capable of a lot of things. The only thing limiting it is our hardware.

I want an Alien Vs. Predator game on the DOOM 3 engine.

How about a nice Jedi Knight game using the engine. Think of how cool it would be to enter a darkened room then you switch on your saber and suddenly multiple red sabers light up and your surrounded by Dark Jedi.

Oh man - I think I just aroused myself with that description!

I thought the weapons PC Gamer showed looked bad. I missed the double-barreled shotgun.
I'll try to get accustomed to them, however, I'll wait and see what Raven has in store for us.

I like Quake

I remember reading an article in some gaming magazing about Quake IV that had several screenshots, all of which looked pretty good. There was one shot of a marine cadaver on a meathook/rail system that was just gross. They explained that it was in fact using the Doom 3 engine and would be action packed - big outdoor battles, enemies everywhere, total carnage. I still play Quake II on occasion and am really itching to play this. They will most certainly have to tweak the engine to get it to handle this level of environment and action.

The Doom III engine is the Unreal Engine.
It supposed to be all action, no scary bits.
