* An engineering system to craft devices including sentry turrets and RC car bombs, if you have the blueprints and parts.
* Your health regenerates--a gift connected to your history.
* Races and missions are available from hub towns.
* Vehicular combat is a big part of racing, with power-ups and ammo placed around the courses.
* Weapon upgrades, such as a scope and aiming stabilisers for a crossbow.
* Alternate ammo types, including a crossbow bolt which allows you to briefly control victims before they explode.
* Stealth is an option in combat too.
* A gladiatorial game show named Mutant Bash TV offers big prize money.
* A car parts system allows boosts to areas such as acceleration, traction and suspension.
* Other car upgrades include bombs, a magnet to draw power-ups, tire shredders and EMP shields.
* Multiplayer modes are currently not finalised.
* One weapon is a three-tipped boomerang called the 'wingstick,' which will return.
* The PC version will offer higher resolutions, more anti-aliasing and faster texture page-in times, but the three versions are essentially the same.

Meh... I don't have much faith in id.

Combat racing games have been incredibly fun since the Atari 2600. With Id at the helm, I have hope.

I also have high hopes and can't wait for the first decent open ended, free roaming fps.

cool!! It's not really evident in the soldiers photo, but in the enemy photo, it looks a little under-saturated and could use a little more color variation and strength in my opinion.

Interestingly, Doom 3 was over saturated to the extreme (but you couldn't always tell because it was so dark)

for example:

The over saturation of color makes the door look unrealistic

Pretty much. Ever since Doom 3 they've proven themselves time and again incompetent in creating decent and satisfying weapons in what are primarily run and gun action games. Horible sound and particle effects in Doom 3, Quake 4, and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. So pardon me if I'll continue to be highly skeptical until I see a gameplay video to prove me wrong.

Don't give a shit till I see some gameplay.

I agree. It sounds like a cool concept and it is nice to see id do something that isn't doom, wolfenstein or quake but I have to see gameplay of it first.

Yeah but just to be fair, I assume id must have overseen quake 4 and ETQW's development they themselves didn't develop it.

True, Quake 4 was developed by Raven and ET:Quake Wars was developed by Splash Damage I believe...

I have always loved ID's In house games. **** YOU ALL Doom 3 when it came out was the shit! With its flaws. This is something im hyped for.

Some new screenshots released
Consisting mainly of environment shots, the images show off id's "virtual texturing" process, which allows the studio to create "unique, very large" textures in the id Tech 5 engine.
Looks good, I think. I see that there is ...water. In an id game. It's great to see that they've decided to include this interesting element. I hope it becomes a gameplay element as well. Driving dune buggies through streams and shit? Hell yeah.

Am I the only one bothered by the skybox? I assume it's static, it looks like one of the boring skyboxes outa STALKER.

There was a sky in those pictures? Didn't notice; too busy looking at HOLY SHIT MOUNTAINS AND DIRT

Well, it does look awesome in the screenshots, but I do hope it isn't static.

I never thought about that. It could be static, but it could also have multiple layers of movement using particle effects like Doom3 (mars surface). Completely static clouds would look really suspicious.

iD should take a hint from Far Cry 2 for good-looking skies IMO, all games should.:)

I'm really not bothered by things like a static sky and dynamic shadows. They're nice to have, but appear waaaaay down the list of criteria that make a game good.

Rage and Borderlands are both looking very tasty :bounce:

I'm starting to actually get a little bit excited about Rage. At the very least it's good to see Id work on a brand new IP and throw around the idea of mixing up FPS gameplay a little bit. We'll see if they actually deliver, but my hype for the game has gradually moved upward.

Probably not echoing a popular opinion in saying this, but I'm sort of glad they decided to sell to ZeniMax.

Why the hell is it so dark? Those outdoor screenshots look like they were taken during the middle of a thunderstorm, yet the skybox makes it look like midday

Perhaps because it's cloudy and the light source (sun) is casting shadows toward the camera in many of those shots.

EDIT: YOU'RE A JERK FORUMS, I HATE YOU.

The complete opposite for me. Mountains and dirt do not impress this one. But the characters and buildings look pretty interesting. This is a game that I am definitely going to have to try before buying it. ID just seems to be in a rut with their recent games in terms of both gameplay and graphics. Though I am pretty happy with the latter in this game from what I have seen so far.

I am actually kind of interested in Rage, possibly more than Borderlands (Because the gameplay in Borderlands looked really dull despite the cool atmosphere)

Not crazy about racing, but if it's gud, it's gud.

Borderlands looks like it'll be more similar to wow and diablo in that you can piss around with some mates for an evening exploring and levelling up. Rage looks more story driven. Isn't co-op game in Rage was seperate from the single too?

I've been wanting a sprawling co-op fps for years and now we have two coming :bounce:

Holy shit that looks amazing. The animation is ****ing beautiful and god damn the racing looks cool.

I'll reserve judgement until after actually playing it. Looks nice though.
