I finished reading his manifesto (available at the link earlier in the thread).

I would have enjoyed talking with this guy, I think I might have been able to give him some stuff to think about. He took the existential worldview and twisted it the wrong way - he refers to existentialism and some concepts of existential philosophy (subjective morals, etc) and some of his stuff is very Niezschean (he seems to consider himself a sort of ubermensch) but his entire system is founded upon his idea that natural selection is the correct way for the human race to progress. He's fighting to rebel against society and the machinery of the state and deindividualization, because he has delusions of grandeur of being much more intelligent than he actually is; and yet he uses a ****ing pistol to kill innocent people. A gun, which would never have come into existence without the society he condemns, and which is contrary to the point of his entire "stronger = better" argument, and then instead of killing someone for a purpose he decides to just kill a couple of high schoolers who don't have any more idea what the world is than this poor ****er did.

What I'm pretty much saying is what's already obvious: this guy was delusional, sick, and irrational. It's too bad he got this far.

To be honest, this kid's youtube videos are hardly anything new. A lot of people do weird shit and post it on youtube- if that Britney Spears dude went and shot up a school, everyone would be thinking "zomg criminally insane, we should have known!".

If anyone close to the school has any kind of inside information that could help warn the school or officials, they should do it. If someone were to post on 4chan "tomorrow I'm going to shoot up <my school name here>", I would act on it.

But other than that, there's not a whole lot people can do to prevent these kinds of things. Better response times, lockdown drills, and education is what's important here. You can't hunt down thought crimes.

It's tragic, sure, but not really that important to the big picture.

So? People who idolize this sort of thing are going to do it regardless of the publicity this has because Columbine and Virginia Tech and a lot of other things already happened. Yeah, and they do. I guess they didn't catch this one, but the FBI monitors /b/; a kid about a month ago was vanned for posting a fake threat about shooting up his school.
