New Silent Hill game is a FPS

Man, I was just about to make this thread. I had the New Post window open and I was gonna format it exactly like the XCOM thread, too. But then I thought the better of it because I don't know how many people on this board care about Silent Hill, so I clicked on the "back" button.

But, to say what I was gonna say:

It's an FPS.
Made by Mafia 2's developers.
For the 360.
It might not actually be that bad.

Eh, the way I look at it, they want to make a different game but keep the name brand. Really makes no difference to me since I don't buy games based on their brand name. Game will be judged on it's own.

I can understand being upset if you are a fan of the game.

"Deus Ex the racing game, exclusive for PlayStation 3 announced by Square Enix. Pre-order now, and get Garrett from Thi4f as a playable character!"

I can understand being upset if you are a fan of the game.

Silent Hill died a long time ago. Shattered Memories is a great game, but it seems it's not good enough for Konami to let them make more Silent Hill games, but this piece of shit.

feels weird seeing my name

"Fallout the FPS-

Oh.
Right.

this is three dawgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg...

:(

Edit: what if it's like Penumbra?

Why have so many previously great franchises been destroyed...

With the increased technology gaming is meant to be progressing and getting better, but the majority of games are just getting worst over time.

I, for one, would love a Silent Hill episode from a first person perspective. I couldn't play the other games with the control scheme (no fault of the games though).

How can anyone not see first person thrillers being legitimate after Condemned? Change any little gameplay aspect of a beloved franchise and the fanboys scream bloody murder.

Now that Silent Hill is a FPS I might actually try it! Also what BHC said.

Oh noes, u mean I wont walk around like a retarded stiff robot with really annoying third person camera angles?

o no wat were they thinkin, the game industry is really goin down guys!!! first persons r 2 mainstream!

I'm gonna laugh when this gets made and it turns out to be shit.

I actually don't mind this at all. It is nearly impossible to topple SH2 as the best game of the series in the traditional format, so why not switch it up a bit? I am applauding this decision because I think it can work for this series, but yeah, the XCOM FPS idea is total SHITE!!!

new videogame crash coming in.............

Condemned was an average, horror game. The story doesn't make any sense. Shattered Memories was a solid game, so why not create more of it?

Quoted for truth.

First person horror games are good when done right, look at Call of Cthulhu, Penumbra, and White Day. They want to turn this into a FPS game, because they want you to kill monsters. I think SH games should stay as adventure games, because the combat was always horrible. Perhaps, they should stick to SM's formula: no weapons.

Penumbra is not an action game....
SO maybe they'll do it that way...how do you assume to know all about this game, when you didnt even know it existed til this morning?

who said it's an action game?

..my point was youre assuming a lot, about something you know absolutely nothing about..how do you know it wont be like penumbra anyway? what makes you think:

FPS nowaday means having some rifle whit a cog view shooting at various enemy so probably it will be like that

scaries as dead space is scary :/

It might not be bad, if it goes along the lines of call of cthulhu Dark corners (but majority improved) then it might work.

I'm going to laugh if this turns out to be like Penumbra or Condemned and all the little fanboys who shit all over this start sucking off the devs "OH THIS IS AMAZING HOW COULD WE EVER HAVE DOUBTED YOU OH".

^Thats pretty much what happens when any game is released...there is sure to be plenty of people shit all over it before even playin it

I still need to play some Silent Hill befoe I can determine whether this is DEFINITELY ACCEPTABLE or DEFINITELY TERRIBLE.

Having FPS could be interesting, things sneaking up behind you and whatnot, add some more tension to the game, then again could be awful.

>Valve announces Half-Life 2: Episode 3 as a third person game with rpg elements
>ZT is fine with it

You only feel that way because we're all huge Half-Life fans. The fact is for a huge Silent Hill fan this move could be pretty damn upsetting/alarming. I guess their games don't matter as much.

No. There are generally Silent Hill 1 Fans and Silent Hill 2 fans. Anyone who is a fan of the entire series at this point probably doesn't care what the **** they do with the franchise because it's quite clear they will eat up anything.

I guess their games don't matter as much.

They don't.

Oh, okay, if I don't name the specific game they like it doesn't count. So if a Silent Hill 2 fan looks at this game and sees that it being FPS takes away a significant amount of what distinguishes Silent Hill 2 and makes the game good, their reaction counts for nothing, where as if a Half-Life fan noticed that having a third person Half-Life takes away a significant amount of what distinguishes Half-Life and makes the game good, that's perfectly understandable.

Stop trolling. It being third person is in no way significant to what made the 1st or 2nd great. have you even played the games sheepo? the movement controls is so bad it feels like youre pushing a crate around for 8 hours in tomb raider. Im glad they're changing it cause at this point they have completely run the whole idea into the ground, almost every game is exactly the same. same story, horrible controls, exact same aesthetic.. they have done nothing to change it..also it didnt even say if this was going to be a game in the main canon or not..maybe its an offshoot like the psp one.....

No, I haven't, but that's not really the point. It's my understanding that being 3rd person is a fundamental aspect of the gameplay and game (I haven't heard anyone give nearly that negative of an opinion on it before), and changing that is a huge change, much like making HL2 a 3rd person game would be. Yet anyone being skeptical or alarmed is being shit on.

First person could be excellent for a Silent Hill game, if it keeps the tone and pacing of the series. The worrying thing is the it clearly states: "Genre: FPS and Action". Which is probably exactly what everyone was afraid of when they heard of a first person Silent Hill.
