New STALKER pics + HDR

OMGPWNT :p

Anyway, I'm not "blown away". I'm still very skeptical about this game. I'm merely impressed at the quality of the skies.

I'm not really interested in this game but I'm really interested in the story, there are just too many games to keep in mind atm so STALKER will have to wait.

umm does that mean it's important? cuz I shit every day :O

No, because if I dont shit on a wednesday, who cares?

And I dont think its healthy to be shitting every day. My doctor told me you should only shit 3 or 4 times a week.

your doctor was wrong (all depends on your fiber intake) ..and I said it as a joke

...I...see... :|

Anyway, I still go by what I said about S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s graphics. They are beautiful in an ugly way. The NPC's are still plagued by too much skin detail, to the point where they look like they've been underwater for a while. The raisin effect is unlike anything I've seen in any other game.

But I'm still willing to overlook the graphical shortcomings if the gameplay is great. :D

Best. Pet. Ever.

Some screens, like the above, look good. Others look like the walls are made of lasers and the lasers are shooting straight into my eyes, which have been coated in vaseline.

wtf have they done to this game :( , ubersoldier's engine looks better

Looks good, but we aren't blown away, i believe, because we've all played hl2-hl2 ep 1, and well... nothing compares.

atleast is going to be released

and is the gameplay what my interest is

It's hard to judge much other then the graphics in screenshots which is why I prefer articles/videos. Anywho, my taste when it comes to graphics is very strange. I love the look of the older quake-engine and unreal-engine based games. They have a clean look to them which I adore. Anyone else the same?

No.. unless rotting food in your stomach is somehow now beneficial to your body? I've noticed especially after eating grapes I have to go to the bathroom. It's like a natural laxative that doesen't give you intense stomach/abdominal pains. I haven't seen alot of people mention this about grapes.

Call me weird, but I think this game's beginning to show its age now. The character models are quite blocky, and the textures are really bland - little discernable mapping effects. Whacking HDR over it isn't going to cover potholes like that.

Exactly what I thought. It's a similiar style to Half-Life 2, but doesn't look nearly as good, even though HL2 is one / two years old now. Personally I think the textures look quite detailed, albeit bland - it's the models that are starting to look blocky. Ah well - hopefully the game will look better in motion, and regardless of it's graphics, I'm sure the gameplay is awesome. I'm not someone who's easily put off by appearences - hell, I still play Fallout :)

Well put. I was thinking the same thing.

Stalker is still interesting, but it isnt as interesting because of the time they took to make it

From what I've heard seeing the actual video from which these screens where taken(The video's in the same magazine) it apparently looks twice as much better in motion.:)
Anyway, I still think this are pretty decent graphics, better than Boiling Points by far!
And as many here have stated, gameplay has always been what this game has been all about imo.. It's going to be interesting to see wether it flops or not.. But I'm fairly certain it's not gonna be commercially succesfull unless all magazines give it over 9.0 in their scores..:p

The screens are nice, but over-bloomed.
In HL2 Ep1 we have the best HDR ever done, I think. It isn't over-exposured in dark areas and doesn't suffer from this milk-like look in outside areas. I hope we can turn this pseudo-HDR effect off.

The same pseudo-HDR was present in Brothers in Arms - my eyes started to hurt after a while and had to turn this feature off... Quake Wars also has this type of bloom, but it doesn't look overdone, based on the screenshots.

Oh, and yeah - I also love the clean look of older games like Quake or Unreal. I'd say something even more weird - they sometimes feel more 3D than modern games :p

It's just because next-gen games feel like they've been coated in a gigantic layer of nice, elastic plastic.

One of the best HDR I've seen is probably Project Gotham Racing 3 for the 360..
Worth noting is that HL2 uses SM2.0 HDR whereas PGR3, ESOblivion and Far Cry for example uses 3.0.
I don't know the differences exactly, I dunno if it's just a speed difference or if SM3.0 allows for more detailed and thus better HDR due to its faster speeds..

Yea, older games had what - one layer? A texture?

With Doom 3 for example, there are 4 layers to the textures:

Detail map (the main texture)
shader map
bumpmap/heightmap
and local_map (normal map)

Games like Crysis might have several more, including hemoglobin maps! :O

VirusType2, he's just referring to the fact that the next-gen games all shine like everything is made out of plastic.

Why drag Doom³ into this?

SM3.0 is much much faster than SM2.0. Although only ATI cards 1XXX+ supports 3.0 and 6XXX+ for nvidia.

heh I was joking ...I actually agree with you on the shiny bricks syndrome in games
