New STALKER video

Yeah, it's not Half-Life 2, but I feel as if I had to post this here, seeing as how the official STALKER forum is pretty much depopulated right now. I wanted to get to see someone's response after seeing this. And for the record, I am all about the Half-Life 2. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of fps and good graphics, you'll want to see this clip. It features the X-Ray engine's (what's powering STALKER) night/day cycle. The lighting affects everything in the environment. From the grass to the wildlife, nothing is left unscathed from the digital sun's dynamic lighting. Really something to behold. Go check it out...you won't regret it.

Yeah...people really should see this. An overall great presentation of the engine's lighting abilities in large, outdoor areas.

Why did you have to completely remove it from 'general'? Now hardly anyone's gonna see it. You could have at least let it still stand like the threads "The announcement !" and "HL2 obviously not comming out this year so..." I realize my post was off-topic, but you didn't have to completely omit it. I really do want a lot of people to see this video.

This is not Half-Life 2 discussion, it should have never been posted in the Half-Life 2 discussion forum.

You should have posted it here in the first place, we have certain forums revolving around certain topics for a reason. If you insist on posing non-HL2 related stuff in the HL2 discussion forum you'll eventually be banned.

On a positive note, the stalker trailer was fantastic.

I AM a fan of HL2 but this so far, this game's screenshots and movies ive seen make the game more attractive to me than HL2 at the moment.

Cool vid. I havent read up too much on stalker. What exactly is the point of the game?

One thing though, stalker, at the moment, does NOT feature real time lighting and shadowing. All you are seeing is dynamic lighting + stencil shadows etc... So, you will not be seeing shadows that are completely real looking, but the lighting looks to be superb. I am also awaiting this game more than HL2, it supposedly has a better physics engine which outperformes Havok.
Here's something cool: Stalker can deform vehicle meshes! If you drop a car from way up high and it lands on it's roof, then the roof will "crush."

I'm doubting that STALKER has better physics than HL2. Physics are one thing VALVe has a grip on, they took ALOT more time to make it an integral part of gameplay, not to mention it's not Havok any more, it's a suped-up Havok

Looks outstanding...another game to the list.

But I think the, "such and such is better than such and such" talk is VERY premature. Especially based on just videos and screenshots.

You could have the best looking girlfriend in the history of the world, but that doesn't mean she HAS to be the best girlfriend in the world. She could be a major pain in the ass with no personality, and the IQ of a tennis ball!

I'll wait to play them before assuming too much, but the good news is the odds are in our favor that at least one or two of the upcoming games (HL2, Stalker, Doom3, Deus ex2 etc) WILL be very good and not just a pretty picture.

Very impressive stuff, stalker looks to be getting to be a darker and creepier game with every trailer. I'm fascinated as to how well the sound is going to be done, I think if they crack that then they will be onto a winner. The only problem I foresee is that they just make it too goddamn creepy to play , Co-op mode might well be a lifesaver :thumbs:

I seriously want to see if that fairground wheel can be accessed/made to work, that would be impressive.
