New Steam Update slowed hammer way down

The new valve update is bringing any work with hammer to a crawl. Today I opened Steam and it started downloading an update, when i finished it and started hammer up, hammer was verry slow to do anything even make a box... processes under task manager is saying that steam is using up as much memory as hammer is... any ideas?

I know there is a know issue about steam leaking memory if hammer is open and any of the steam windows are open, make sure to close them

and rembemr to save as a diffrent name often, hammer can and will corupt ur files, has happend to me 3 times on one project!
