Most white people say they would react strongly to racism, but don't do anything when they actually witness prejudice, Canadian and U.S. researchers said on Thursday.

They said white college students who heard someone make racist remarks in a study failed to confront that person, and this may be part of what perpetuates racism.

For the study, the researchers evaluated 120 white students in Canada who were exposed to racism while waiting for what they thought was the real experiment to begin.

A white student posing as a study participant makes a racist comment about a black participant when he briefly leaves the room. The remarks ranges from moderate to extreme racial slurs. When the black student returns, the actual participants are asked to choose partners for a subsequent exercise.

They found 63 percent of study participants chose the person who made the racist comment as a partner.

You know what angers me about this study? That it won't get a backlash from the white community. White people may perhaps be the least racist group of people on Earth, and yet because of fear of being politically correct they'll just accept bullshit studies like "white people are racist."

You know, there was that show on recently, "What Would You Do?" where they conducted a similar experiment at a deli, where the cashier was an actor pretending to be racist to a group of immigrant day laborers (also actors). Quite a large number of white people actually spoke out on those immigrants' behalf. As I recall there was only one black woman who did anything, and two Mexican women. Everyone else was quiet.

And you know too if this study had been for any other race, calling them racist, there'd be this huge uproar from their respective communities.
