Ok, im building a media pc from scratch and had plenty experiance, but this just annoys me because i've never had a bulid not work :)

First of all, can you someone verify that this processor (top one):
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Intel_Dual_Core.html

Will work with this motherboard:
http://eu.shuttle.com/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-72/170_read-11083/

Both socket 775 and both new so i figure the mobo should support it.

Anyway - assuming that it does, here's what happened.

I slap everything in (CPU, RAM, HDD and DVD-RW) and turn it on. Everything powers up (i.e. all the fans and HDD) but no output to monitor and no error beeps.

I take out everything apart from CPU and turn it on. Everything powers up (i.e. all the fans) but no output to monitor and no error beeps.

I take out the CPU and turn it on. Powers up but no output and no error beeps - also now the power switch at the front wont turn the machine off after holding it down for 4 seconds.

Put everything back in and turn it on. Everything powers up (i.e. all fans and HDD) but no output and no error beeps, power button on front now works to turn it off again.

I concluded that it must be that motherboard as it gave no error beeps to say there was no RAM when the CPU was still installed. I don't acctualy know what should happen (error beeps or output) if there is no CPU installed, so if you know please tell me.

Basicaly, do you think im right? Its doing my head in! I sent the case and mobo back to www.pixmania.com like two weeks ago and they've yet to comment whether its br0rked or not :(

Processor support
Socket 775 supports Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron D processors
at 800 or 533 FSB, supports Hyper-Threading

this might be your problem but the proccesor should still have worked at lower fsb.

Power supply
SilentX 250 Watt mini PSU, supports 100/240V,
connectors: 20-pin ATX, 4-pin ATX12V, 4-pin 12 power for VGA
EMI certified: FCC, CE, BSMI; Safety certified: UL, TÜV, CB

do you have any video cards installed or are you using integrated?
