Turning Point debut trailer. Obviously not gameplay or anything, but as a stand alone video its pretty awesome. I'll be interested to see more about it at E3, as I've always liked Tomb Raider games, and have thought that the characters and story were the only things keeping it down.

Watch in 1080p if you can.

Bermuda triangle at a guess. I wonder if they'll play it straight faced or whether they'll throw in the odd LOST joke now and then.

Now that is how you do a cinematic trailer. Details are scarce about this game so far, but I'm liking the change in direction to a survival oriented game.

Things I saw: They were going to Japan so its probably NOT the bermuda triangle. There was a muscular oldish looking guy (probably her mentor or expedition partner) and you will probably spend some time looking for him. She is in a place with a lot or wrecks (there to give a variety of environment styles). There were some numbers in there that might be a meta-game advertising campaign. She is not much of a bad-ass at the start and will probably become progressively more bad-ass as the game goes on.

More the idea of place where ships etc end up than the actual Bermuda triangle itself (the concept of so to speak).

Gameplay.

Looks like Laura has quick time events oozing out her hot ass.

I hate quick time events, and button mashing to get something done. They don't belong to any PC game.

ya it's a little heavy on the QTE's... but I look forward to seeing how the platforming and puzzle-solving plays
environments and atmosphere are top-notch though and I really like Lara's new (old) look
release date is winter 2012 though so.... long way to go

They are definitely going for a more cinematic feel. The QT events remind me of Heavy Rain. If done well I think they could be good... now if only they would tone down Laura's shrieks.

Yeah it looks awesome, Lara is a little too vocal though IMO.

I'd like to see the sound recording session for all the noises Lara makes.

"M'am, here's your script, I'd like a few variations of each:

Aaah!
Ooff!
Argh!
Gah!
Hngh!
...

Could we hear some more pain in that 'Hngh'? Perfect, now a little more desperation, please."

I had no idea Lara Croft had a british accent/origin.

Living under a rock?

I don't really like this new direction, they basically made her act like a "damsel in distress". I know they are probably trying to make an origin story of how she became a highly skilled adventurer, but come on. At lest they could cut down on the screaming.

Tomb Raider - Rape Escape indeed ROFL

Then you must have had no idea that Lara Croft existed. She has never NOT had a british accent.

Also, I like the new character a lot more. Its about time people stop making invincible super macho dont give a f*ck characters and have a character who has some weaknesses. The sounds didn't bother me at all, I'd be making that much noise if I was wrapped up in a cacoon that caught on fire, got stabbed by a stick I fell 20 feet down onto, had freaks chasing me, had boulders falling down on top of me, etc.

lol I see they werent joking when saying that it sounds like a porno

EDIT: and how many origin story has alra got? Ir emnber one that was about lara exploring some cave whit his dad or mentor as a child and she had pigtails hairstyle, and them in other game her mother went to other dimention

I know tomb raider dont have the best storyline but hell its becoming like the movie industry, can they just make a good game and add this new stuffs whit whatever storyline they got and just not make it awfull?

I also like this character direction.

Watching it a second time the grunts and screams did not bother as much. I agree that landing on a spike is reason to scream, but as some points there seems to be a little too much. I really like how the screams convey both her fear and determination at the same time. My only problem is with the fine tuning. Sometimes there's too much or to high pitched.

All in all, I really like it.

I agree completely. Lara's character was always one that was incredibly cold and detached, so it's nice to see a more human side of her. "Damsel in distress?" Did we watch the same video? She escaped completely of her own volition, and she did it with a ****ing hole in her side.

They could stand to cut down the self-narration a little bit, though. Seemed a little forced to me.

Yeah, when she was like "I've got to get out of here!" I was all "No shit idiot."

Since its not coming out for so long, hopefully they remove most of the QTEs. Maybe we should start emailing them to tone it down. But I doubt they annoy casuals as much as they do for me.

I think the original trailer would have been stronger without any narration at all.

This might be okay. Are Crystal Dynamics doing this one as well?

I get this eerie pre-teen rape victim vibe (intended or not), with most concept art still sexualizing her face/body (pursed bloody lips, etc).

Game looks great, I'm stoked. Glad she doesn't look like Angelina

Especially today's Angelina. I saw this when I was at CVS today.

Ok, that one may be fake, but this one is definitely real.

Apparently the QTEs are mainly featured in the opening sequences in the game to convey the desperation and defencelessness. The developers (can't remember where it was said) stated that they would tone down in the rest of the game.

Good direction though, I think it may well pay off.

Hopefully, yeah. That scene looked entirely scripted, whereas they originally said the island would be pretty open. Whether that actually means there'll be a strong element of exploration, or if it will just serve as an "overworld" to move between more linear pockets of content? Time can only tell, but I'd hope for the former with a tinge of the latter.
