I put a deposit down on one of these today. :D

Kawasaki-ZX6R-2005.jpg

Pulls like a train all the way up to the 16,000rpm redline, holds a line in corners like it's on rails, ferocious brakes that provide a measurable reaction from the light touch of one finger on the lever and a top speed of 168mph. Has 128bhp and weighs...not much.

All being well I can pick it up Thursday evening. Very excited, it's leagues ahead of my current bike in every way. :D

I've said it before, I'll say it again: bikes have more disadvantages than advantages.

That may be true, but life is best enjoyed when you follow your heart, not your head.

yeah but looking cool negates them all.

imagine how cool your corpse will look up against that baby

lol, inb4 massive "car drivers are retarded" argument

Aww, I thought it was going to be about sex toys...:(

No need for an argument, I can appreciate a nice car as much as the next bloke. Unfortunately you have to spend tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of pounds to get a car equivalent to a modern sportsbike which almost anyone can afford. And then they are prohibitively expensive to run and maintain. And then the bike would still be more fun.

Would love a car as a pure utility - for shopping, for going out socially when I can't be ****ed to get changed and for when the weather is really shite, but I can't afford to run one of each.

nice ride...just got done snowmobiling all day...thinking I need a new 4 stroke yamaha :)

nice man!!!

What color you getting it?
mines black

Sweet, looks like an R6?

It's in good old Kwaka green, personally I would have preferred silver but choices are more limited when you buy second-hand!

Looks nice repiV, hope it is good...just don't smash your leg this time ;)

Thanks, I know it's good because I took it out for a few hours today. :D

The crouched over riding position causes me back and neck pain, but that mostly disappears at speed because the windblast takes the weight off somewhat. And I assume it will get better with time because I'm just not used to using those muscles in that way. Apart from that, it's pretty much perfect.

I'll try very hard not to, it hurts too much. Still suffering from last time. :)

Hey hey hey hey hey! :D

What a way to go mate, rode the Zx8 for about a month or two and it's a mean machine. I thought you were more into sports-tourers?

I like it.

I like it.

I like the funny feeling.

Being here with you.

Be careful on that thing young man!

ZX8? What the hell is that? :)

I was, but I'm finding the comfort issues less of a problem on sportsbikes nowadays for some reason - experience maybe? They used to feel really unnatural and clumsy but now I bond with them fine. And I find my Fazer boring as hell now, but still noone else has made a half-faired streetbike to match it in all the years since. And it pissed me off no end in the winter, in this climate they suffer carb icing really badly, can't get any proper throttle response, jerky as hell (not what you want on icy/snowy roads), stalls every time you close the throttle and fuel economy is literally halved. Goes away after about 15 minutes but I'm almost at work by then. This is fuel injected so will run sweet all year. :)

Tried the Triumph Street Triple R, great little bike but it just wasn't that exciting and it's a real chore to ride at speed. My helmet was being pulled up by the wind and the straps on my jacket felt like tourniquets at a mere 80mph! Great urban bike, I think.

Plus I don't live in or near a big city anymore, and the major discomfort/pain issues are around town. If I still lived in London I probably wouldn't have got the ZX6R but the roads down here are a bikers dream - they're all twisty, rural and challenging with little traffic. We have almost no straight roads at all.

Main reason though is I just find it exciting in a way other bikes aren't, I still want to ride it even with the aches. I was going to get a 2007 CBR600RR, they're even more amazing but it was far too expensive to buy and to insure (1600 quid a year, I think not). The Ninja will do. :D

So what are you riding these days?

Be careful on that thing young man!

I will. No mishaps in the last 10 months and 16,000 miles if that helps.

Holy shit, it says Ninja on it!!

Looks pretty awesome. I think fast cars are nicer than fast bikes though :)

Ha, oh jesus that's a fair hock for insurance, sounds about right for under 24s. Yeah mate, i'm on the blade still, broke her in a few months ago. Had a ride on the Street Triple back then too, still think they've got a way to go yet before they become a serious contender...still reckon they sound like an uptight Vespa though  Personally can't really find myself relaxing on them though...you're a lucky bugga livin in the twisties too sounds like the kwakka's built for it! Should get a green ranger suit to match! Figure you're gonna get a shit load of fun outta her mate :naughty:

/envy:E

Problem with the carby is interesting. What are your sprocket and chain like mate? Could be a loose spark plug, which may damage the head. Is it whilst you're in a lower gear or at low speeds?

ZX8? What the hell is that? :)

Think of a stock ZX-9, but with a non-factory purple custom body kit. ****in uuuuuuugly :p

06 R6?

Yeah, it's not too bad on the ZX636 despite them being the same insurance group. Theft risk and value I assume. Still, I'm going to have to insure it third-party only on a monthly policy until May when I pick up the no claims bonus from the Fazer, then I can get it insured at a semi-reasonable price fully comp.

Yeah I tried the R version which has better suspension and brakes, it really is a great piece of kit, perfect throttle response, amazing brake feel and handling. It's just the total lack of fairing and screen makes motorways torturous and speed a real chore, I don't like the riding position much and the power delivery is so linear. It just feels really bland, even though I can appreciate the quality of the machine at the same time.

Ya, we have some insane roads round here. Like Porlock Hill: Porlock Hill

I went up that the other weekend, needless to say a mild panic set in when I got on the ultra-steep bit at the end of the video, sandwiched between two Range Rovers travelling so slowly the bike wanted to stall in first gear. And then having to negotiate a hairpin bend while still climbing a 25% gradient. Fook me.

It's not perfect though, we don't really have any fast, flowing, predictable roads down here, they're all the narrow and deceptive kind, and a lot of them have terrible surfaces and are covered in shit from farm traffic. It still rocks - hills, valleys and moors make for fun roads!

Eh, I envy your climate. Your winter is like our summer, possibly slightly cooler but a lot drier I bet.

Problem with the carby is interesting. What are your sprocket and chain like mate? Could be a loose spark plug, which may damage the head. Is it whilst you're in a lower gear or at low speeds?

It's just because when it's that cold (and damp) out, the moisture in the air freezes around the carbs due to windblast so it runs like utter shit. The only real solution is to ride for five minutes, stop the bike and wait for a short while to let the heat of the engine thaw the carbs out, then ride off. I'm talking of temps from 4C and below here really, which unfortunately are pretty standard for a winter's morning. When it's any warmer, the problem goes away. Although if it's really foggy out, and still quite cold, that causes the same problem. It's foggy a lot here because I live in a valley and commute on the road that follows the river.

You can get petrol additives, which help, as does super unleaded, but it doesn't entirely solve the problem. I suppose you could probably rig something up to heat the carbs, but I'd rather just buy a more modern bike. :D
