Seriously, a better universal warning sign is needed. In a thousand years when no one knows what the traditional "radiation" symbol means, nuclear waste dumps are still going to be dangerous. The ultimate test is to show it to isolated tribes in the rainforest and make sure they understand the concept of "stay the **** away!!1!11one"

That sucks. They've tried to paint some comic book story on a tiny little symbol.

The basic rule of making logos is that they're supposed to be simple so you can notice what they're about in an instant. Yellow stands out better too.

The person above your post describes the situation nicely. The symbol for radiation may not be a universally known constant, especially in the future if bad things happen and communication breaks down. So a need to use pictography to get your point across. I'm not sure how well this new symbol does for that, but at least it's a step forward.

I like how the new symbol uses the old symbol as a part of itself.

This isn't so much a replacement as it is a hieroglyphic instruction manual.

It's for ionizing radition, I think that's a specific type, also this won't be seen around, just under casings of machines etc.

For a different type of hazardous radiation? it's radiation! How exactley was the last radiation symbol not getting the message across!?

I think they mustof shown it to a mental disabilities class, and their lack of recognition lead to a new design.

Imo, a sign that actually says "GTFO radiation" would work better.
