new video card

hello. i have been using a geforce 3 ti200 64mb in my comp for a long time and it plays doom 3 and farcry very poorly. i want to buy a new card for HL2 but i dont wanna spend more than 150 because im cheap. what is the best card you can get for 150 or less. is the 9600 xt any good?

Indeed if you are speaking about pounds/ £'s, then you could get a 9600XT for just over £100, which is what i did, and will do you nicely for HL2 and CSS. Enjoy.

Yes. That would be the place to go.

If you look around enough, you may be able to score a 9800pro for under $150. That would be your best bet. www.pricewatch.com

$150 is enough for a fast card.
 
9600xt is the best graphics card you can get for that price.
 
You'd be lucky to find a 9800 pro for that price. but if you do, snag it up right away. It's a fantastic card. otherwise, a 9600XT would have to do.
 
pwn3d by f|uke. sorry, yeah 9800 pro if you got a decent enough power supply to run this greedy monster. It would run Halflife 2 great, as seen from the E3 presentation, which used a 9800 pro. So thats how nice it would look :p

If a 9800pro is useless to you, then obviously you're not even able to relate to this guy. So why'd you chime in here when your opinion is clearly worthless? Its not enough to be a hardware snob, is it. You gotta rub it in the faces of those who cant afford $300+ videocards. Christ.

I have a 9800 Pro and it works fantastic for me. If you download the Rage3D tweak you can overclock it easily too.

I have mine overclocked from 372mhz to 420mhz. It gets a bit jittery at faster speeds. I have the memory overclocked to 346mhz too though I'm not sure what the default is for that.
I didn't manage to overclock the memory much as it started leaving old lines and dots on the screen from programs I closed down and other little errors around.

The Rage3D tweak also has a lot of nice options in it too. I'd recommend any ATi user to get it.

I'll be agreeing with f|uke here, 400 plus? i find that shameful to spend so much on a card, and secondly, we don't care for people who want to boast about their computer specs like that, or feel the need be-little other people who arnt as fortunate as you.
 
sorry but 400 bucks is not alot of money when ur early income is close to 200k...i don't consider it shameful...sorry i have an opinion/attitude u don't like...

Yamato, no? They're OEMs. I think they are. I have seen 9800pros on sale at Frys Electronics for that price (for very limited times), so it doesnt seem so unreasonable.

Actually, looking closer, the Sapphires arn't Pros,. but I am inclined to believe the $149 Atis are. However, I'm not sure whats meant by "9800Pro EZ",. EZ? Hm.
 
thank you f|uke, my don't intend to insult anyone by my sig, its just a nice song, i also recommend wake me up when september ends!

I got a powercolour 9600XT 128mb i think, i know not a great investment but it counts as an upgrade and will run HL2 considerably better than my ge force 2 mx 420, which didnt even have shaders. So either the 9600XT, or 9800 pro will do you good just to run it adaquatly :cheese:

I think the point is you're comparing your situation to someone elses and downplaying what THEY need/require. Not all of us are made of money so to say what someone else needs/requires is crap or not good enough just doesn't come across the right way.

How it comes across is, "Mine is better than yours and I consider yours not good enough for me...thus lower."

Frankly, no one cares what is "useless'' to YOU...the person asked a simple question based on limited on funds.

r u? I don't know....you type like a 12 year old that makes $200 a year as opposed to a someone who has a 40 year old kid that makes around $200,000 a year.



Anyway, as the others stated for $150 you will have no problem with HL2 . If you can squeeze out a 9800Pro for $150 then you are in good shape.

The question is, why do you feel the need to tell the "reality of your situation" when its clear that most of us are nowhere near as well off? Either you're bragging, or you're so detached from our common reality that you can't releate. This guy can't afford a $400 card, so why do you feel the need to tell him that you're too good for his hardware?

Not everybody has money coming out of their you know what, pal. And I really doubt that you are 60+, you're probably some spoiled kid that gets anything he asks for. Getting money isn't easy when you're a student or a teenager, and $150 is a lot of money, so shut it. Don't bother writing an immature and witty reply, I won't read it. You've demonstrated that anything you write is not worth reading. I suggest that people make good use of the "ignore list".

Edit: Go for the 9800 Pro, bud. Very solid card.
