I cant wait to light the fuse :cheese:

Well, my neighbors called the police the last time I did. :|

So, probably not.

Probably not, be too wasted to be let near explosives!

It's hard to get fireworks if you're underage like me. I will probably get hold of some firecrackers though...

Last year we went and got some of the fireworks that fly like 50 or 80 feet in the air and set them off and the cops came :( But we are going to do it again this year (In a diffrent spot)

Here, the store owners don't care. Except alcohol and cigarretes, they will sell glue, BB ARs, butane gas containers, flamethrowers, and ect to 8 year old kids. :)

woohoo korean stores ftw eh 15357?

i miss them good ol guys selling stuff to underage kids T_T

In Michigan, bottle rockets, etc. of the kind are illegal. We can have anything more than sparklers or those little things you light on the ground and it shoots out sparks. Meh. Go no one really cares. All around my neighborhood, we see huge-ass fireworks going off.

I never saw the point in fireworks myself, seems like watching money explode to me :o That said, I really enjoy organised fireworks displays, just never saw the point in having my own.

Same in most states. However-

it doesn't seem to stop anyone and the police only care if it's out of place/a big disturbance and at new years eve it generally isnt

QFT. Amazes me the amount of money my friends can spend on fireworks.

wont be buying any myself. my house has a perfect view of this:

so i'm good to go.

Yeah, I live right near Boston (huuuuuuge fireworks show). I'll probably either go there, or... bah, forget that. Party time!

They are illegal here, but no one cares. Hell, people fire guns into the air in our neighborhood

Last time me and the lads tried to do a little amateur firework display on New Year resulted in a hedge being set alight. Due to the fact the mortar box of nine or so mini rockets wasn't popped into a ditch to secure it.

It was spinning about that garden for ages, spewing rockets everywhere.

That's stupid and irresponsible. What goes up must come down. They're real loose about lots of stuff here in Arizona but firing into the air, you bet your ass if you get caught you'll be sitting in a jail cell overnight.

All you have to do to get the cops to come out if someone's shooting kinda close to your house is tell the cops they're shooting in the air. Even if they're not you do that so you can get the cops to come out and make them move farther away.

true, but a bullet weighing a few grams can't do that much damage, can it? A penny dropped from the Empire State building barely produces enough force to sting a little..

somehow, i'm not quite sure on that one, whats the mas velocity on a falling bullet?

A penny dropped from empire state building can kill someone (it cracks pavements) this is the reason why window cleaners and workers have to be extremely careful they don't drop stuff......imagine an iron bar coming down.

A bullet falls much faster than a penny, it's made mostly of lead and is designed to be aerodynamic.
I can't imagine in texas the likelyhood of the bullet hitting someone on the head isn't too high but it's still silly, you shouldn't fire a gun like that in the air.

I imagine the terminal velocity on a 9mm parabellum would be about 300 feet per second and it weighs 124grains (8 grams roughly) you do the maths, i imagine that could crack a skull, pentrate a bit.

didnt they do something on myth busters that proved a penny couldnt kill you from that height? I think it just showed that it would hurt, not kill.

yep. but A bullet would probably do alot more.

They tested the force with a penny launcer and fired it into one of the guy's hands. He was like "ow", but that was all.

Weight has nothing to do with it, a bullet weighing a few grams can kill you when fired from a firearm.

You also have to remember this bullet is gonna go WAY higher than the top of the Eiffel tower kinda level - and mathematically if you disregard air resistance it would reach head height at the same speed it left the firearm e.g. fatal. Obviously air resistance comes into play but they're pretty aerodynamic, and there has been at least one case on the news where someone has been killed by a bullet from a vertical discharge.

It's possible to make something of a shape that won't tumble but will fall true (a dart, for example), and it would be in the interests of firearms manufacturers for bullets to be similarly modelled (less tumbling = more range), so I'd imagine they'd do the same. Quite happy to experiment, however.

I said weight but I was really thinking mass. And it doesn't matter how high it is past a certain point anyways...

EDIT: oh noes, not another what-if things falling thread D:

It's time for someone to whip out the math...

Though not me. I don't do that whole 'arithmetic' thing.
