this may be long winded but: i have a mother board with a 133/266mhz bus and an athlon 1700 which is currently running at 1473. you can see in the picture the jumper combinations and what its like at the moment. what i think at the moment is that all the jumpers are 'on' so that 133*11 would give 1463. basically what im wondering is could i change the jumpers so its x12.5 to give a higher cpu speed?

i dont know about this stuff (as you can probably tell) so bare with me

What picture? Also what Mobo namebrand/model? Not that I can help...just important info.

sorry im a complete idiot, forgot to add the picture ill attach it to this

and the motherboard is a jetway v266b

that is what i thought, but when i bought it they siad that it was already set up (with cpu installed) so i wonder why they didnt set the jumpers to maximize cpu speed

ive just read that athlon 1700's are meant to run at 1470mhz, so i think i'll leave the jumper settings after all

good idea, the athlon xp's use a rating system, a 1700 doesnt run at 1700 but it would be equivelant to an athlon (old athlon, not athlon xp) 1700Mhz cpu performance wise, or at least thats what amd tells us.

Oh...LOL. I thought you were trying to OC, oMarKs. Yeah, a 1700+ runs at 1.4 Ghz. The 1700+, actually, means that is the Pentium Ghz CPU which it's meant to compete with. It's part of AMD's "it's not the Ghz that counts, but the instructions per clock cycle" spin.

and hey, it works

2800s compete very favorably with 2.8 GHz P4s
