Er! most people here would consider $300 what they pay for a graphics card to run HL2 at its best, not a whole PC.
You need the Internet to unlock the game, validate your files and CD KEY.
Also any updates for HL2 and especially for CS source and HL2DM (which needs downloading through steam) will be automatically downloaded through steam, unless steam does'nt detect an internet connection, then you can run HL2 in offline mode (it still needs unlocking first through steam).
This game is only as easy as you make it, i.e. if you lack the ability to work out puzzles, and get bored quickly, you may get stuck in places thoughout the game.
But if your a Veteran at fps games you should have little trouble, because most games of this genre require some puzzle/ problem solving.
The game is not gory like SOF2 (as an example).
The physics is what makes the game, e.g. Imagine, your at the end of a long corridor, enemies are running towards you firing as they come, your down to your last few bullets, What do you do?
Your trapped! No way out!
Do you get ready to die and reload a savegame?
Or do you use the physics to your advantage, pick up a filing cabinet with your special gun, and knock the enemies down like skittles!
The whole game has this sort of physics challenges in it, thats what makes it so good!
Just go out and buy it, best $40 or so, you'll ever spend on a game!
