Odd he chose the number 3, trying to tell us something.

If it is infact episode 3 I can't wait to play it. With Valve's track record that will be some time in 2013.

I reckon one of them will be DOTA, hope it's for Xbox as well.

As for the other 2, it's a safe bet to say one of them will be some sort of update.

If we keep saying "omg Episode 3!" over and over again, sooner or later we will be right. So... omg, Episode 3!

Pfft, Half Life 3, Ricochet 2 and Flying With Fairies

One of them has gotta be what Icefrog is working on...

Aside from that I have no clue... keep in mind his suprise for E3 was Portal 2 and Steamworks for the PS3, so these "big announcements" could be just more things like that.

Something about Portal 2 (like co-op)

L4D3

New TF2 update.

Or a new engine update.

Ive completely given up on EP3. Too long of a wait, dont care anymore.

Thinking about it, how are they going to market it when/if its announced. They're going to have to go all out to gain alot of fans' interest again. I mean seriously, are they arrogant enough to delay it all this time thinking we will all come running back to them?

I've had a feeling the past couple of weeks Episode Three is nearing announcement.

Fans will regain interest the moment it's announced.

Actually I bet its going to be a new engine announcement, Source 2.0 or something.

Think about it; Valve would be ripped to shreds by the industry and press/reviewers if they released a game that's taken so long to make, yet on the same engine as EP2.

It HAS to be a new engine and EP3. I mean the Source engine is great but its too old now, get with the times etc.

If the gameplay, story, pacing etc. is up to their usual standards and the length is sufficient I doubt it. I do suspect that with it taking so long they must have realised they had too much story left to wrap up for one episode so it's either going to be an extra-long Ep3 or fully-fledged HL3. Possibly some engine tweaks but probably nothing huge.

I don't see Valve getting "ripped to shreds" due to using Source for Portal 2, which is another major title.

Nope, they wouldn't, and nope, it doesn't have to be. Nor, I suspect, will it be.

They're more likely to finish out the HL series on the source engine with tech updates (as they've been doing with every episode to date).
If they do a new IP, they'll more than likely tout a new version of their source engine with it. It'll still be called Source though.

My guesses..

I personaly don't see a game with the title 'Half-Life 2 - Episode 3' ever appearing but that's just my feeling. It seems like it would be a nightmare to sell a game that describes itself as an expansion pack to a 6 year old game, (the game's industry consumer base is basicly 50% reactionary moron afterall) I predict an eruption in whining when the next Half-Life title is something unexpected.

Something completely new and genre breaking for Valve, we already know about DOTA and it would not be a major shock, but maybe something along this line.

Steam Linux maybe? it has been rumored a few times.

Blizzard on steam? okay grabbing at straws now.

Totally agreed. The Episode era is gone, and Valve already admitted the failure of episodic content. So, welcome HL3.

I really hope these are actual surprises for us Valve fans, and not like the "Portal 2 will come to the PS3" surprise. And I am hoping, an million times, that one of them will be Episode 3. I'd like to finish the fight.

Hello EP4

Seriously though, I have a feeling that one of them is going to be some info on a Half-Life movie or the actual movie.
The second, an announcement about Ep3 and Gabe's excuse for the delay, saying it's all undergoing development. Or just an announcement that they'll be transitioning to Half-Life 3 instead.
The third, weell, TF2 update, more of Portal 2 or movies/music over on Steam. But I guess that's what iTunes is for, so..

Half-Life 3
Half-Life 4
Half-Life 5

Announcement 1: Episode 3 cancelled, replaced by Half-Life 3.

Announcement 2: Episode 3 released on a new version of Source w/ new, more streamlined SDK.

Announcement 3: DOTA will release on PC, 360, PS3 with cross-platform play.

I WANT L4D3. Others probably HL3 and...CS2 all with Source 2.

It HAS to be a new engine and EP3. I mean the Source engine is great but its too old now, get with the times etc.

Perhaps it's significant enhancements to the engine, bringing in the latest graphics technologies seen in other games, like some radiosity, better shadows, etc. But I'd be disappointed more than shocked if they rewrote the engine.

HL3: Episode 1 2 and 3 will only be on the PS3

Blizzard's entire catalogue available for purchase on Steam, that new DOTA game by Icefrog, and Team Fortress 2 updates for PS3 and Xbox360.

I wish I could get Halo or Halo 2. ;( I love the campaigns. Hell, might aswell add 3 if they're going to.

that would kinda cool, but knowing that when i added WoW to Steam as a game I play, I noticed it slows gameplay down considerably. Especially when I want to listen to iTunes. Also does anyone recommend a better program to use when listening to music other than ingame music?? iTunes is a major resource hog

An old version of winamp might do.

Foobar2000. My favorite straight up music player, and it probably has the lowest resource usage out of all the many players I've tried.

^ This. Started using it a month ago and haven't gone back to anything else since.
