Nickelback blows.

I couldn't be bothered to download that right now, but is that the clip where they play two different songs over the top of each other and they sound almost exactly the same?

That's funnyyyy, they both line up! Hahaha. I have to admit, there are far worse than Nickelback (SOAD, Disturbed, Linkin Park and the similar).

SOAD is good, I liked the first 2 albums, Disturbed's first album was decent, but I have always refered to Linkin Park as overrated.

Nickleback, Sum 41, Green Day, Godsmack, Lifehouse, etc... all mediocre bands.

Wait until you hear mezmerize, SOAD have really changed it up a lot on this album, it all sounds unique so far, I like it.

SOAD is great, but nickelback is horrible.

Nickleback is one of the worst bands I have ever heard. Apparently their fans enjoy every song being about getting laid. The most ignorant lyrics ever.

nickleback > tea party ...which isnt saying much ...they both suck tool ...so does Our Lady Peace ..canada has some sucky rock bands

Yeah, and it's sad that they get whored by the networks so much because they're strapped for Canadian content. There's very few Canadian arists that are actually worth listening to, despite what Much Music tells us.

Rush and Niel Young is all I can think of for Canadian music

Avril Lavigne is a pretty damn good reason to hate music from Canada.

Canada has some sucky mainstream rock bands. There's some pretty amazing stuff coming out of Canada right now.

Heartily agreed. Axis of Advance + Revenge are quietly turning metal on its head.

some of their songs are good, some ok...But a lot of them do sound alike. Was listening to "The Long Road", the album and that was one of my first thoughts

Thank you for explaining that. I don't know why someone would just assume that we would know what it was by just downloading it.

I didn't even know it was two songs layed over each other until I read that.

Boards of Canada are scottish I think...

I know I know, Boards of CANADA - but I think they are from scotland.

Axis of Advance seems to have some nice reviews, as does Revenge. I'll check both of them out. Know any non-black metal stuff out of Canada?

I'd actually say ignore all the journos, Axis of Advance aren't black metal at all - just a type of atmospheric death, too violent and hateful for black metal fans to accept as being death (due in large part to the drumming and production values). They also get pigeonholed as "war metal" because they write about war, but I think defining a whole genre by that alone is like lumping Ensiferum and Enslaved together because they're both "viking metal". But AoA are very dm and often melodic in their riffing if you can penetrate the noise - check out Strike, it's my favourite album (like, ev4r). There are also some mp3's up for download on their label site at www.osmoseproductions.com

Revenge are a different kettle of fish - black/grind/war metal inthe same vein as conqueror/blasphemy (both from Can), and you're lucky if you can extract any musicality from them whatsoever. They're more like vicious hatred translated directly into noise, and the few riffs that do stick out are like an attack on the entire idea of riffwriting. For a good idea of what revenge sound like at their best, listen to the track "Blood Division".

Apart from AoA (and obviously Kataklysm, Cryptopsy etc), I can't think of any bands from canada that don't fit broadly into that pseudo-black sphere, although many elitists would want to hunt me down for saying AoA aren't black metal - good songwriting isn't a bm monopoly, of course. Pretty much all the other good metal bands out of Canada are bm to some degree though.

Who here dares to claim BoC are from Canada? Shame on you!
