First off, please forgive the silly grammar and such, I am drunk but am trying to type as well as possible and to make as much sense as possible.

I've been smoking whilst drinking for a good few months now, probably a year. However, as I found out a few days ago, I've been smoking 'wrongly' until a few days ago.

I was sucking on the fag, and then breathing in through the nose. I enjoyed the feeling of smoking the cigarette but never understood how people got addicted because I didn't feel much.

However I recently learnt that the correct way to smoke a cigarette is too suck it, and then breathe in through the mouth immediately afterwards. I hope that makes some sense.

In the last few days I've been loving cigarettes, **** me, the stuff is so powerful. I always thought nictonee was a very subtle drug. However, I've learnt it is actually extremely potent.

I enjoy a normal cigarette or rolling up my own. Buying a pack of golden virginnia with no filters is brilliant. Far more powerful than weed has ever been for me; although given that I was never smoking it properly.

My question is this:

Should I stop smoking altogether? I've only been really experiencing it for a few days, maybe a few smokes a day. How much do I have to smoke to get addicted. Are there any real health dangers to smoking a few each day? If I changed to just smoking weed, would that be much unhealthier? What should I do?

I really don't know, I drink more than my fare share of alcohol already, but that's because I'm at Uni and there's always a party.

This is a very important thread for me, I really don't know what I should do here, experienced advice would be great. Thanks guys.

I was sucking on the fag,

lol'd

Anyway, I would recommend making a few rules you feel okay with, and sticking to them. Rules such as only smoking when you're drinking (because cigarettes and beer go very well together), or only smoking with friends, or never smoking more than, say, three a day/night. If you're worried about getting addicted, just don't take cigarettes with you when you're going somewhere.

I took a while to cotton on to the inhaling thing, too, so don't worry.

We've all seen you post before while drunk. You're not fooling anybody!

Same story here, took me a little while to figure that one out. Makes a big difference, huh?

Maybe just stop smoking?

I heard it only takes 5..

It's entirely up to you if you want to smoke or not. I'm no doctor but I'd say 3 a day wouldn't be too harmful (your lungs cells regenerate slowly) tho it is very easy for 3 a day to turn into a pack a day. If you think tobacco is more powerful than weed I'd guess you aren't inhaling weed properly either.

As to whether you are addicted or not, why not just try to stop smoking for a few days? If you crave them, you have your answer. And if you don't wanna quit for a few days you're addicted lol.

500,000 deaths each year due to smoking related causes in the United States.

That's not an insignificant number at all. Chances are smoking WILL affect you negatively some time in your life.

My advice would be to sit down and have an honest assessment of how important you think Cigarettes are in your life. Think about how special and significant they are for you right now.

Then, try imagining how you might be in 10 years... 20 years... 40 years. With a wife, kids, grandkids... whatever. Try to put yourself into a positive situation somewhere down the road where you'll suddenly be faced with your mortality and how it will jeopardize the good things you have going for yourself. How you will cope with it, how your family will cope with it.

Many times people come to these points in their lives and they kick themselves and beat themselves up... pulling out their hair and asking themselves how they got in this situation. That if they had the chance to go back and change such a simple thing, they would do it.

This is your chance, honestly. You won't be able to go back in time and change things. So don't just look at your mindset now about how you don't give a **** about your mortality and the ill health effects your smoking will cause, think about the future and take this opportunity to stop things right now instead of WISHING you had all those years in the future.

If you are/start smoking them regularly, you are/will be addicted.

and the rest of your life

Its a lot easier not to start than it is to quit. We all have to make our own mistakes, but if I could go back and not start, I would.

Smoking = Bad.

Well, I'm not going to start. You can do what you want. I advise against continuing, though.

"I already know the answers to this but I want to be the one person who is unaffected"

Is smoking bad for me? YES
Am I going to get addicted? YES
Should I quit? YES

Come on Solaris

My advice is party and smoke and shit when you're young. Maybe settle down after uni.
I'm not even 20 yet, so I can pretend I'm ****ing invincible.

Far more powerful than weed has ever been for me; although given that I was never smoking it properly.

Go smoke some weed with your newfound method then. As for the cigs I'd say quit while it's still easy; you'll probably want to do it in a few years anyway if you don't do it now.

I'm suprised none of your friends noticed and told you you're doing it wrong.

Man, Solaris, if only you hadn't cottoned on. Then you could have truthfully said that you'd smoked cigarettes but that you never inhaled.

It's funny because I can't even smoke the "incorrect" way that you did. For me the only natural way to smoke is to inhale it deep into my lungs. That's probably because I started smoking weed long before cigarettes though. Seriously, if nicotine buzzes are more intense than weed for you, you need to go smoke a joint with your new deep inhale method and see what happens. It's going to be awesome, I promise.

Bonus points: smoke a cigarette after you finish the joint.

God damnit, onwee! Smoking is not a videogame! Stop corrupting our kids!

No! Don't give up. Smoke more. Statistically speaking the average smoker will contribute more in excise duty than they will take away in medical costs. By smoking you are helping keep this country's public services running!

So take one for the team and smoke. For the People!

It should be noted however, my preposed policy of reducing the tax on tabacco and alchol (lower taxes will result in lower prices meaning people will buy more so they'll damage themselves more quickly while contributing the same amout of tax and stimulating the economy), removing all anti-smoking/alcholism advertising from the government budget, decriminalizing most recreational drugs (so generating yet more tax revenue) and reducing road tax costs on faster and less safe road viechles in order to solve the pensions crisis has met with criticism in the past.

why not just weigh the pros and cons of smoking...

pros: you get to suck on a fag
cons: you get a chance to die at a young age, but at least you impressed that goth chick at the local pub.

ahhh i remember the good old days before i became a 20 a day smoker. fine fine days. my hands didn't permanently smell of shit, same goes for my breath and i remember the joys of being able to go for a short walk without feeling like my lungs were crying

i wouldn't recommend anyone to start smoking ever because truth be told, its crap. the only time its really good is when you're working hard on a shift at work and you go outside for that wonderful ciggy but its all a fake feeling of relief. its novel when you start but once it becomes a habit, the joy's lost to be fair and i'd be saving a good £30 - £40 a week if i quit

I have no rolling papers... and the shops are closed... and the buses arent running.... And I ran out of weed.

I'm going to pretend that I've taken up smoking, but in actual fact I'll just start depositing the money I'd spend into a piggybank.

Anyone fancy lending me a cig?

SINCE WE'RE GOING TO BE CLEVER, THEN WHAT I SAID WOULD REALLY PROBABLY HAVE SUGGESTED THAT SOMEONE FANCY WAS IN THE PROCESS OF LENDING ME A CIG RATHER THAN BEING ABOUT TO OR PLANNING ON DOING SO IN THE FUTURE

TYPING IN CAPS

FEELS GOOD, MAN.

wait, so you're saying you are not fancy? I don't know if I can lend cigarettes to just an average person.
