Nine Inch Nails - The Slip

He says, "Letting you get away with it" and I'm thinking ...I wonder if he is talking about downloading his albums Letting you get away with it.

I don't know, just what came to my mind.

I think Lights In The Sky is like a closing to In This Twilight, anyone?

Discipline and Demon Seed are my favorites... the rest is cool but it just doesn't seem, I dunno, finished.

I'm coming around to this album. I'm beginning to like it more and more.

Yeah, it's one of those things that has to grow on you...but aren't most of the best things that way?

I so so wish that Lights in the Sky had louder vocals.

I was going to say this before. I often wish that Trent would really tweak the volume of things on his songs. Often there is a sample that is just straight blaring - ear piercing even. I know he wants it that way, but sometimes it's high pitched and hurts, so I have to turn down the song, then I can't hear the rest of the song properly - for example the bass will be weak at a low volume, or like you said... can't hear the vocals well.

It can be a pain to tailor the EQ for every song, but you can use an equalizer. vocals are usually mainly at 1k Hz (center band of equalizer), so you could increase that, and the adjacent bands might have a significant impact as well.

Can someone tell me the piano chords or something else I can play on the guitar for Lights In The Sky at all? I really need to figure out the chords because I am dying to cover this song....

Anyone ):

This is like my favourite track from the album.

I often have to stop listening to a NIN song halfway through because it descends into loud noise. Really, why does he hate us? :(

lol yeah Trent likes to make sure that you have to play NIN loud as hell in order to listen properly

I just made a cover here: http://forum.bandamp.com/Audio_Review/6404.html

I don't know what chords were intended, but here are the notes I played:

Verse:
F5 (C with an F above it), C#Maj (C# with F above it), Fmaj (A with F above), Fmaj7 (A with E above), Bflatsus4 (Bflat with G) resolves to Bflat (Bflat with F)

Chorus:
Not really chords, left hand does progression in octaves of F, E, Aflat, G dominant 7, Fsharp Major 7. Right hand does the line F, E and then at the last chords (G dominant 7, Fsharp Major 7) the right hand does octave Fs.

Lights In The Sky (Cover, early work in progress)

Here's my WIP version, hopefully I will be adding bass, synth and vocals to parts.
And I'll be sorting out the mix.
This is just a bare minimum guitar and drum machine.
I'm adding an acoustic guitar to it too.
It might sound lame now but just you wait!

That's an awesome direction for the song to go. Don't really like the sound of the hi-hat of the drum machine. Cool guitar tone though.

Thanks alot man! Not possible without you, I mean yea i changed it somewhat, but I wanted to know the original. : P
<3 u

You mean Hurt? Great song.
Tollboth: That's the one. Love it. Thanks for telling me the name.

Ok updated it like mad, just needs vocals adding now, will look into it tomorrow.
It's 5:40am here and insomnia has kept me up...

I have been the same for the past week.

Checking it out now.. BRB

It's really cool man. I love it.

If you are able, maybe you should reduce the frequency of hi-hat taps for the first couple loops, until the song really kicks in. They sound great later on, for example around the middle of the track with the drum section.

I like that song a lot more thanks to you.

Lights In The Sky reminds me of that other NIN song.. don't know the name... the one where he goes, "And You could have it all!","I apologize" I love that song.

MYYYYY EMPIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE OF DIIIIIIIIIIIIIRT
I WILL LET YOU DOWN
I WILL MAKE YOU HURTTTTTT

Man, whenever people think the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt is the original, it makes me want to stab stab stab them.

^somebody at work told me this:

after Johnny Cash did the cover, Trent said that the cover was so good, that the song was Johnny's now, and he would no longer do the song (in concerts or whatever)

Not sure if it's true, and don't care enough to research. Anyone hear this before?

NiN still play hurt live.

"I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure"

What's that quote, neptune?

Virus, nah, because I saw NIN a couple of years ago and Hurt was on the setlist.

Okay this album is the album I've been waiting for Trent to make! I am so happy with this, it has all the elements that got me into NIN in the first place.

Hahahahahahahahahaha. NiN suck so bad. Why the hell does every HL2.netter like them? Honestly, they are ****ing horrible.

Who wants to listen to Nine Inch Nails with me!!? I mean they are soooooooooooooo good guys! Best band ever! Yeah!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I'm sorry I couldn't stop meself from laughing there. NiN is quite possibly the worst band I've ever had the misery to listen to.

And I don't understand how EVERYONE on this website likes them. They are worse than ****!

:D

Copy/paste? Good job? I don't know?

Seems someone really wants some attention, what with posting how much he dislikes NIN in three threads.

Demon Seed has quickly and unexpectedly shifted from my least to most favourite song on the album :D

Double post ahoy!

Has anyone else picked up a hard copy? I got #89,949. And before you ask (I know you weren't going to), yes, I did in fact spend several minutes looking at the unit numbers on the back of each copy before selecting the one with the most interesting number. Three 9s (3x3 zomg), an eight, and a four (which is half of eight holy shit). That is my reasoning.

In retrospect, I probably should have chosen the one with the price sticker on the front, because the sticker incorrectly labelled the CD with a price of $34.95. Probably could have gotten it for free based on that.

I hated it at first, but The Four of Us Arr Dying, Echoplex and Demon Seed are now among my favorite NIN tracks.

I've ordered a hard copy online, but I haven't received it yet. It'll be interesting to see what #number I get. It'd be cool to get a relatively "well-rounded" number, say for example #63,200 :)
I know the chances for that are quite small, but one can dream...
