TOKYO, July 4 -- Defying the United States on Independence Day, North Korea fired seven missiles on Saturday into the sea off its east coast.
The test-firings came two days after North Korea, which is being squeezed by the U.S. government and other countries for its recent nuclear test, fired four short-range missiles into the sea.

North Korea had warned ships to avoid waters near its east coast through July 10 because of military exercises, and the test-firing were widely predicted.

The South Korea military said that seven missiles had been fired intermittently from early morning on Saturday to late afternoon, but declined to say publicly what type they were.

Military officials told South Korea's Yonhap news agency that they appeared to be Scud-type missiles and described them as more dangerous than the short-range weapons fired Thursday.

You can all relax, Hawaii is not in danger. They were all short-range missiles.

Oh noes!

Well, thats seven less missiles in NK's oh so very scary arsenal

Even North Korea celebrates the US's independence day with fireworks. Everybody loves July 4th!

I'm going to Hawaii next week. Not to worry, though.

**** that, son, you need to test fire missiles on your own soil, ******s.

I love how that Pentagon guy was just like "lol wut? You so silly North Korea. You kwazy"

I was expecting another border skirmish, but oh well.

hey numbers answer me this.

is Seoul prepared for the event of a an artillery barrage from NK? or would it mean instant death for the citizens?

They've got forcefield technology.
Wait I wasn't supposed to say that.

SHUT UP DEATHAMSTER.

Ahem...All of the StarCraft pro-gamers will line up and get in their Goliath suits, then begin sniping the artillery from the sky.

Fkn micro.

Well, we have a few point-defence systems like Goalkeeper and etc, and PAC-2s and PAC-3s for the big 280mm rockets or their SCUDs, but not really. In an event of an artillery barrage, we wouldn't be focusing on the shells that have already been launched, but on completely annihiliating the artillery themselves. While NK posseses one of the most numerous artillery battalions in the world, we have similiar numbers, and likely surpass them in terms of 150mm+ cannons.

Also, we have way more sophisticated artillery like the K-9 Thunder (Samsung) and MLRS systems, as well as air-to-surface missiles that proabably can destroy NK artillery within 30 minutes or so. The problem is that withing 30 minutes, our own forces would have taken massive damage (the average survival time for a soldier in a frontline guard post on the DMZ in an even of a war is calculated to be at 5 to 8 minutes.), not to mention the civilian casulties that would lie in the thousands.

Also forcefields. :p

Samsung makes your artillery? They have terrible customer service, I recommend going with a different provider for your high powered weaponry. I have a monitor of theirs, and its not too good.

Hey Samsung are great!

I've had no problems with my 40" 1080p HDTV from them!

Well, all of the giant corporations that reside in Korea have something; Hyundai our destroyers, Daewoo our rifles, and Samsung our artillery and robotic sentries.

Besides, Samsung is Korea.

Is it just me, or does it seem like North Korea REALLY wants to be attacked?

I'm sure if they wanted that they could've just opened fire on us. Then again maybe this was their failed attempt at doing so.
