So has anyone heard anything about a No Cd crack yet? I really would like one right about now. Seems many people cant play HL2 with the CE and some that have the CD version cant play it either. What I really am pissed off about is that people who got it from Steam never needed a CD to play so why the hell do we need the CD to play? Some people have been telling me to get it by Steam but that will take so freaking long I think by time its done they will have a No cd patch. So if anyone gets any info at all about a no Cd crack post it here.

Well I think I found something but not really sure if its safe. If you guys really want to try something and all hope is lost or you just dont feel like waiting for a crack there is a offline patch thingy here http://www.gameburnworld.com/gameburnworld.htm your using this at your own risk let me remind you. It could be a hackerz shit trying to jack your CD key.

any takers?

Has anyone tried this one yet? It looks suspicious to me. Gamecopyworld is usually the best, but they haven't posted one yet. Granted, it's only been out a little over a day now...

Well the site has 2 new thingys I dont really want to try and them and since I got my HL2 working I wont. But the thing is I'm using someone elses DVD ROM that isnt mine. I wont be able to have it forever so I hope something will fix this problem soon. Its funny how my brand new CD/DVD burner wont start HL2 but a very old DVD rom does it perfectly fine.

That's an offline activation patch. I don't see anything about a No-CD patch.

Yeah, it sucks that you still have to stick the CD/DVD in. I don't remember reading anything about that before release. I assumed it'd be the same installation as the Steam buyers. I have a feeling it's a Vivendi thing (they're in control of the retail portion of Half-Life 2 sales), but nonetheless, it sucks. Dang it, Vivendi.

Got the 5cd retail version also.

Tried one of those cracks at gameburnworld.

HL2 acted like it was never activated and did it again after applying the patch.

Still says the No Disc Inserted message.

So no , none of those help.

My legit key better not get banned from trying that or i'll be PO'ed

Anywhooo.... not sure what to do now, cuz it no doubt changed something i didnt want it to cuz of it re-verifying.

Guess i'm gonna have to re-install the game now to get back to my original "retail" installation. :frown:

I hope you guys know you're running a huge risk of getting your Steam account hijacked from downloading shady stuff like that.

Good point.

Should have bought this through Steam - didn't take long at all, since the thing has been pre-loading in little bits for a while.

You've got to expect to do the disk thing if you buy this game on CD or DVD.

Zul,
No i didnt know that.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hope its not too late.

I just started re-installing the game, i registered it this time. (i never register games...LOL)

Hopefully if it does get hijacked, theres at least a way i can contact Valve and plead my case, that i own a retail copy.

Man, i wish i woulda known the downloaded steam version didnt require the cd to play, i woulda gone that route instead, but NOOOO... i HAD to have a retail boxed copy, and there isnt even a manual in the box, just a reference card and an ATi X800 rebate.
i already own a 6800 GT, so i made that decision some time ago...(around the time Doom3 was released....LOL)

Guess i paid for the box, 2 cards and PAPER cd sleeves! ;(

Maybe its possible to make a imagefile of the DVD/CD, and load that with daemon tools and some kind of protect emulation. Steam/Half-Life 2 wouldn't see any difference :) . I don't know how to do a imagefile with the protectioninformation remaining, though.

supposedly its not possible thats why companies continue to use it.

as soon as it is cracked ( it eventually will be) it will be obsolete

Nope, it's not possible to copy the discs. Sorry. The game won't run if it detects emulation software, and plus, I haven't found any apps that make protected images from a DVD, only CDs.

We're stuck with it.

Also they'll risk being banned/contantly kicked for having a malformed hl2.exe when VAC2 is out.
