I liked the fact that valve didn't give us the crowbar until we practically got used to things without it. it trained me very well to use the grav gun to break open ammo boxes and to use it against enemies when im low on ammo. plus, i think it was time to move away from the whole crowbar hype... its been on too high of a pedistle all these years :D

NEVAR!

You make a good point though. I did like the new weathered texture it had.

I missed the crowbar, especially when breaking boxes. Sometimes I went close to boxes only to realise that I didn't have the crowbar yet. ;)

No crowbar kinda sucked, it was so hard to break the boxes with the GG:D

Every Half-Life game needs a crowbar. Although I never use it when I have a gravity gun, not in Episode One, not in Half-Life 2.

I agree the crowbar is useless with the GG, i alway use the GG to break stuff. But having the crowbar makes it feel like a Half Life game

crowbar > gravity gun

the GG gets REALLY annoying with its little sounds and its huge size, I hate having to pull it out to break open a crate.

Give me my crowbar anyday.

The GG can be fun but it can also get repetative and boring.

When I have the gravgun, I rarely use the crowbar. About the only thing I use it for is beating on headcrabs. (It is remarkably effective at this, *especially* taking on fast headcrabs.)

However, if the crowbar were to be removed, I can't help but think that some small but crucial part of Half-Life's soul would be removed with it. Some of the magic would go away, and I don't want that.

Nah, I love slamming headcrabs to death and taking on those poison zombies with them. :D So fun!

Crowbar is what makes Half-Life what it is :(

In fact, God edited the ten commandments to make sure that it's a sin to take out the crowbar from Half-Life...

As long as there are headcrabs, the Crowbar shall rule supreme. :sniper:

I'm going to have to disagree with first post. The crowbar is near canonical in Half-Life, and not getting until the last 3/4 of the episode really let me down. I think the devs realized that people missed it so they had to put it in.

Perhaps VALVe didn't have a good enough place to insert the crowbar other than the first Barney scene? Seems that way to me, as I doubt crowbars could just be lying around in City 17.

The crowbar has saved my life on many close and unexpected encounters with Barnacles.

Of course, you could fill it chock full of lead with your shotgun. ;)

Boomarang crowbar FTW!!! Bring on the kangaroo zombies!!!

I actually forgot about the crowbar until Barney whipped it out. The crowbar that is.

Much prefer the GG to smash boxes open, especially in hectic fights (like the Antlion battle in the garage)

I only wish the crowbar felt more meaty, then i might use it more.

Ever picked up and swung a crowbar, they are heavy and have momentum. Hit a solid object and BWAM.

As fun as the crowbar is, i think it could be better. Right now you swing it really fast and it makes little swish noises or tapping noises when it hits.

I say make its animation slower and have the view bob a bit to the right as you swing to get a better feel of momentum. If it hits i want to see the crowbar bounce off with a heavy metal impact noise and a little bit of view shake. Or if the target is soft, to just keep its momentum.

Right now if i go up to a CP with a crowbar, its paf paf paf to his face and he dies, it feels like you killed him with a rolled up newspaper. I want to go up to a CP with the crowbar and get a good solid swing that goes *BONK* to his face and watch him keel over in the appropriate direction.

The part where i really needed the crowbar was when Alyx had the sniper and there was a covered bridge between two buildings, with normal zombies crawling across, and since i had no ammo left, and alyx was content sniping out each zombie as it walked across the bridge, i though i was ok, until a zombine ran across too fast for her to snipe it and blew me up with a grenade.

I try (maybe a little too hard) to conserve ammo, so I use the crowbar almost exclusively in some crab-ridden areas, and to tenderize some zombies.

The crowbar is my weapon of choice for headcrabs. On hit and they're dead, all you have to do is time it right when they jump at you.

Crowbar is the best for taking out headcrabs and zombies.
Which is why it's a good thing that Valve didn't let us have it till late in the game.

Personally, having relied on the Crowbar almost throughout the whole HL series, I felt kinda worried I had nothing to fall back on when I have no ammo. Yes, it forces the dependence on Alyx, but I still felt handicapped.

I liked not having the crowbar for the beginning. It really made me appreciate how useful it is. I got so sick of having to pick something up and then chuck it against the wall. It's so much faster to whip out the crowbar and break it. Plus zombies are so much better with the crowbar. Using bullets on zombies is pointless.

I disagree, I think using the GG is much faster, if you're used to using it quickly and efficiently (had HL2DM training? :))

I remember thinking that I had "missed" the crowbar and so I had to finish the game without it. Then Barney revealed it...and it was the best day of my life.

It would be funny if in Episode Two (assuming you have no weapons to start with) you get the crowbar again from Barney..."I'm starting to run out Gordon". Oh, I think someone said it has a new skin in Ep.1...screenies?

Have you played SMOD?

It has a TON of crazy weapons to use, one of which is a shovel. And the shovel feels just like you described, I thought it was hilarious the frist time using it.
