No Gears 2 on PC - Blame the pirates!

Virus, why the hell are your jewel cases so thick?

I liked Gears of War, primarily due to it's art style (frankly, how many shooters set in a steampunk environment are there? I can think of one additional, Timeshift)... and, well, for that pretty much. If it wasn't for the art style and locations (<3 the trial room) it'd be just another generic shooter for me...

I got a CE BTW.

I don't really get the generic criticism. There's very few games that play like GoW (a fair few that have copied it), and the multiplayer is pretty much unique in its blend of strategy/teamplay meets gibbing. It's the most team focussed multiplayer game i've played in a good while (and I play alot of CS and TF2). There could have been more variety in the main campaign - co-op sorts this out if you and a mate are prepared to learn the game and experiement - but big explosions, guns and Space Marines don't always equal generic. I'd argue that online it's even more a strategic experience than the Ghost Recons and Swats games that used to grace the pc years back.

I'm sick to death of arguing about it but I don't really care anymore about it. Epic isn't what it used to be.

Gear of war is a decent game nothing special.
Gears 2 looks the same for better or worse but that basically makes it a $60 expansion.
UT3 blew chunks.

Im glad tihs isnt coming to pc, the pc version of gears 1 was horrible!

This is the only reason i have kept my 360!

Graphics cards installation = PIRACY

That never happens. What we need are more developers concentrating on making decent pc games rather than pushing tech. Infact, it's this type of thinking that's ****ing pc gaming in the ass.

I suspect GoW2 willl arrive on the pc at some point.

Good point. Maybe the problem isn't so much pushing new technology, it's the fact that there are like 300 different graphics card configurations available at any given time.

Maybe they just need a Good Better Best kind of thing.

At least then game developers could concentrate on much fewer configurations

Maybe every year they release a new best, and the best it replaces, replaces the better, and the old better becomes good?

Hahaha, nothing happens this systematically in the tech world though.

And funny how they all primarily use two common APIs, DirectX and OpenGL. Microsoft could do a lot more to make windows more games friendly.

There's very few games that play like GoW

Good it should stay that way.

The big problem we face is most triple AAA titles are developed for the console firstly and subsequently the design backbone of the games is inherently built to accommodate their limitations (limited ram, lack of hard drive space, disc size) and this will short change PC gamers in the long term as our machines increasingly outstrip this generations consoles. Sure your quad core PC might allow you to have all sorts of fancy effects going on at once, as well as hundreds of complex AI, but because the 360 can't handle it, you don't get the option.

I suspect GoW2 willl arrive on the pc at some point.

More than likely, the rule seems to be with any imminent 360 release, completely deny it is ever going to be released on PC.

Anyone else think that "piracy" is the excuse they're using to phase out PC gaming?

I would call it a reason, not an excuse. What do they need an excuse for? They do what makes the most profit in the least amount of time, expense, effort.

Funnily, antipiracy is the reason I don't buy or play new games anymore. Well that, and they never seem to be worth the money.

I still see that toaster as a graduation cap on that dog, krynnseventytwo

Who would fund it? No-one gives much about Sony at the moment in terms of games consoles, Nintendo don't even have the facilities to replace PC gaming and Microsoft would probably lose out from phasing out PC gaming.

Sony doesn't want any of their games to appear on the PC because they want you to buy it for Playstation systems.

Nintendo, same thing. They want you to buy Nintendo hardware so their games won't appear on the PC

Microsoft, well, they want you to buy it on 360, and then buy it again later on PC, with increased features

PC gaming is still extremely strong for certain games that don't appear on consoles. But as you can see from the reasons above, the PC is getting the shaft because of exclusives. Multiplatform titles are now appearing last on the PC, if at all.

Years ago, they would usually appear on the PC first.

The interesting thing for me will be when and if all companies decide to jump onto the console bandwagon I'll stop buying games all together apart from portable systems maybe.

a DLC update will be available for Gears 2 which include the original maps from Gears free of charge the catch is, only new copies will come with a voucher with a code to unlock the DLC. So, meaning if you wanted to go to gamestop and buy a used copy of gears 2, the previous owner will more than likely have used that voucher already.

They don't have a say in the PC market currently, so how would they 'phase out' PC gaming?

The wii isn't a threat to the PC.

Microsoft, well, they want you to buy it on 360, and then buy it again later on PC, with increased features

Which is what happened with Gears of War. But they're lose out by not releasing it on PC as well, so where would they gain from 'phasing out' PC?

Druckels, I haven't a clue how in the world you thought I was saying ANY of those companies would be able to phase ANYTHING. I wasn't even talking about that at all.

I was talking about why games are not appearing on the PC.

As for your question -

The only company that could possibly change anything is Microsoft because their OS is what is used to play PC games on.

and having PC games on Windows is a GOOD thing for them, so they wouldn't want to phase it out.

seriously, how could Sony phase out PC gaming. How could Nintendo. They don't have ANY control over that.

Ehh, I dont really care in this case. I'm buying it for 360 anyways...

Dammit, what a dissapointment

:(

As I see it, the last good game Epic games made was Ut2k4, haven't played GoW but everything went downhill from there.

**** them, they forgot who made their ****ing name in the industry, PC Gamers.

My apologies, I thought you were directly replying to my post. Which didn't make sense. Which is why I responded again. Why I guess is why you responded...

... yeah.

I blame the douchebag CliffyB.

The hack that carries that toy gun as I call it

Yeah, they were disappointed when a year old game for a popular console with some minor content additions didnt sell all that well. They should just port it straight up if they are so sensitive and that whole game was buggy in both versions, and the dialog was painful to go through

Arrr, there be some serious booty to spank for this mutiny! :flame:
