when i picked up my halo2 @ the midnight launch, i asked about a hl2 midnight launch next week.

no.

why ? it simply isn't as popular, they [eb] said they haven't got nearly as many preorders as halo2 and it just generally won't bring in enough to permit a midnight launch and they don't think it'll be worth it.

it sucks, i wanted one.

are there still midnight launches being planned in other places? i guess there will be some in america.

There's a morning launch in denmark :p

But i guess they're just saying they're not permitted to do a midnight launch in the "nice" way.

So probably a little white lie.

Well if you're in Australia, the game will be released around 5pm (if my calculations are correct) so it's irrelevent.

its because jocks dont know how to use a computer/ and they never hear of games like half life 2. they THINK consoles are the greatest - but if they only knew the truth!

The fact that Halo 2 will briefly get more attention than HL2 because of the number of sales it has compared to the non-steam figures bothers me tremendously.

theres no midnight launch because the servers for authenticating hl2 are in PST and midnight pst isnt the same as midnight somewhere else. so a bunch of people will be home with games they cant play till it turns midnight in Seattle washington.

Because of Steam HL2 won't have a midnight launch. The ammount of people that have a credit card and a reletively fast connection (which lets face it...512k broadband is pretty much bog standard nowadays even for the average PC user) would buy it over steam if not for CS:s sooner then for the fact humans are naturally lazy (well most of us) and they don't even need to get of a chair to get HL2.

pc games generally doesn't have as big a base as console games, simply because consoles are generic and the same for everyone, specifically designed for mass market gaming. so no matter how big a PC game there is and no matter how highly anticipated a game with hordes of excited pc gamers, there will always be more fanfare for the big console games. plus console games generally have a larger young audience.

i guess valve is shooting themselves in the foot than [i'm referring to less hype]

i'll be there as soon as the store opens to get my copy i guess.

PoiSoNSpiDeR the people who go to midnight launches are gamers/geeks, not cool jocks : /

Oh well, I'll be waiting around 2 am to play it off of Steam IMMEDIATLY after it releases and staying up all night to play it. Idc if i'm tired for school it'll be worth it. :)

my wednesday class isnt till 2pm. hahahahaha i will prolly still be tired having played hl2 for 12 straight hours.

there is no HL2 midnight launch because head of microsoft PR called the prez at EB HQ and told him he was opening his stores at midnight for halo 2, and the EB HQ president dude said where do i sign

Valve obviously did not do that

No they are making sure the servers don't get attack in several intervals, just a really big one, than a few small ones.

It's a good point really. Where is HL2's advertising campaign? I mean sure it'll sell a shitload. But you'd think it would be a positive to advertise the game on tv and websites and everything, hell surely it can't be a bad thing to do that. It's a little late now I guess anyway, being only a week away.

and your basing this off ?

Even if there WAS a midnight launch (well.. 2AM CST here) at the EB Games I pre-ordered my copy at, I wouldn't go, because I have work the next day. If the release day was a Friday or Saturday night, that's a different story.

Heaven forbid! Have you ever played on Xbox Live? Half of those people can't be classified as Human! The last thing I want are the Halo Fanboys getting their hands on HL2, they'll destroy the community faster than CS did.

No obivously Valve didn't do that. Cause Valve shouldn't even be doing that.

That's what they got Vivendi for, or in Halo's case, Microsoft.

Oh and yes, Vivendi has been phoning around. Well atleast the one in Denmark.
