I know I posted a thread about this a few weeks ago, but there's been an update. It regards the status of the new The Thing.

Well I'm not quite sure what happened to this being a mini-series and sequel to Carpenter's version, but recent news indicates that this will now be a remake of the 1981 film. More details can be found on the bottom.

- This will be released theatrically.
- Described as a "a companion piece" to the Carpenter film.
- Original producer David Foster will executive produce.
- Scripted by Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore.
- Strike Entertainment and Universal Pictures are behind this.
- This is a remake of John Carpenter's 1982 film, which was a remake of the 1951 film.
- When this project was announced a couple years ago it was thought to be a remake, but was later revealed to be a sequel that would air as a two-part four-hour mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Why can't they leave perfectly good movies alone and try coming up with their own ****ing original ideas? Why?! Bad enough that it was going to be a sequel. But a remake? PAH!

The only thing I care about is if it's as grotesque as the original.

It's not the worst that could happen.

I know. I would just hate to see it get f*cked up like most of the other remakes that have come out. But as long as they keep the huskies and the scene where Palmer's head splits part and jumps to the ceiling....

Anybody know anything about David Foster or Ronald Moore?

I HATE the sci fi channel. I've never seen a network broadcast so much consistent crap.

Okay okay, lifetime network takes the cake.

Hate to say it, but why doesn't that apply to Carpenter? His wasn't the first version of The Thing after all. And there seems to be some conflicting information in that article (how is it a "companion piece" but also a remake?).
