No official rating issued as yet?

Hiya,

I was just checking out ESRB and PEGI, Elspa websites for any info on ratings issued to HL2 but it appears that a rating has not been given yet which worries me since Halo 2 launches on Nov 9th and has got its rating 2 weeks ago..... Hopefully not the bad omen I 1st thought it to be :upstare:

HL2's rating will probably be Teen or Mature.

Gabe said in a mail that they're aiming for "T", 13+. Although I highly doubt it, since HL2 is evidently very violent for 13 year olds, it has gibbing, blood and gore. Also, it has horror elements in it, so I'm guessing it'll eventually get "M".

No he didn't. He said "It looks like we're getting a Teen rating".

He didn't say anything about aiming.

We've been though this discussion before.

I got an email from Gabe on this and i got this response:

In the US it will probably have a teen ESRB rating.

HL2 and CS:S will be in the same box.

ESRB will be out of their minds if they rate cs:s teen (humans are killed) so it's probably going to get Mature. I mean if they put in both a M and T rated game in a box, they should cancel each other out and HL2 the box would be rated "E" for everyone...YES!, just what that soccer mom wanted!

what was the rating for hl1? i think its ELSPA 15+ at least it is on the back of my hl1 cd case. UK by the way

As Feath said, Gabe already said the game is getting a Teen rating.
And if the game hasnt been rated yet, then I wouldnt expect the game to be out this year.

That is an excellent point. Either they toned down CS:S or CS:S will not be included as a part of HL2.

Well CS:S has been confirmed as shipping with Half-Life 2. But Half-Life 2 still needs to be rated even if CS:S gets an "M" rating. They are seperate games.

Actually I said that Gabe said the game looks like it's going to get a Teen rating. Also, why wouldn't it need shipping this year. It's already been submitted for rating (Otherwise Gabe wouldn't know that it's looking to get a Teen rating) and I doubt it would take 3 months just for them to rate the game.

Yeah, but Gabe has stated that HL2 will be rated T for Teen. I'm not saying they dumbed down gameplay, but why would you tell people that HL2 will be released under the rating of Teen, but because CS:S is included, it will automatically bump up the rating to M? It doesn't make any sense to me.

If they bundle an M and a T together, it makes sense that the complete package should be an M, while HL2 is still T.

I think it'll be rated M for strong sexual content.

Gordon and Alyx get it on later in the game.

Because the game Half-Life 2 will get a teen rating. He'd be lying if he said that it was getting an M rating.

I honestly believe it will get M. Unless they really toned down the violence, M is definate. I mean, look at Far Cry, just for example. It's rated M, but there is no zombies that get chopped up by spinning knives with guts flying around and limbs going here and there. Far Cry only has blood in it (and some gore for bullet holes), why wasn't it rated T? Also, Unreal Tournament 2004 was rated M, when there is not as violent as Far Cry, even though there is dismemberment. So, why wouldn't HL2, with it's blood, gore, dismemberment, not get a rating of M? Then again, Zelda Ocarina of Time was rated E...

The people who playtested Cs:s said it had sprays of blood, even as recent as the PHL guy and the IGN/GS G-phoria playtests.

So cs:s will most probably not get toned down, and is bound to get a "M" rating, that's for sure.

Medal of Honor was T, and there was a whole lot of killing humans in that game.

But no sprays of blood. Read my above post.

The difference between one rating and another can be very little. I know that Spiderman 2 had one headbutt removed in order to make it a PG rating.

I believe the difference between a T rating and an M rating will depend on whether the Combine are human. I mean, it makes a world of difference if you are fighting aliens (or whatever) instead of humans. Or it could just be other little things.

I honestly don't see the difference if I shoot humans in masks, or aliens in masks that look like humans?

I heard in Germany when you shoot the marines instead of blood they have gears and computer chips and stuff, so you don't have to kill humans.

There is blood splatter in Half-Life 2. The human NPC's bleed when they get hit/killed, but the blood doesn't continue to spew out of them.

One guy gets impaled by a Strider. Zombies (former humans) scream like mad while they are set on fire. Pain. Suffering.

I expect an "M" rating.

EDIT: ESRB Ratings

Here is the guide for rating games.

Don't forget, HL1 (in the source engine) is supposed to ship with HL2 right? Well wasn't that game rated M? I dunno, maybe they toned it down or something.

I'd imagine an M rating too, but then again there is that content-lock feature.

bull shit that hl2 is getting a teen rating.

hl1 got M and hl2 is way more ****ing violent then the first. you guys are smoking to much crack

Besides I don't think Gabe thinks of the Teen rating as some sort of goal. The first HL was Mature and sold through the roof, why would it be any different with Hl2?

Yes, obviously we know more than Gabe. Silly me to forget that.

Gabe is the one who has had contact with the damn ESRB, so why is everyone arguing against him? What more do you know?

Like I said The difference between violent content and "more intense violence" could be minimal. Unless you have a more detailed know-how about how they rate games stop deciding what the difference is in your head.
