I recently built a computer for my flat m8 about one month ago. It was working completely fine until last night when he turned it off.

He came to my door when I wook up saying his monitor might be ****ed as he can't seem to get a signal from his computer. I tried it on my computer and it still didn't work. I tried a different graphics card, that didn't work. I also tried different ram, that didn't work.

I looked around on the internet and found that a motherboard should bleep when it boot up. So I started to take the computer apart peace by peace trying it as I went along until it started bleeping. Now that I have got to the point of it only having a CPU and Motherboard connected to the PSU and it still doesn't beep. What does this mean?

There is one last thing I think it could be. When I put together my friends computer he had an old 500watt PSU. It has the standard 12v CPU power cable thingy and then it has the long thick cable with around 20 small connectors on it. The motherboard he has has a 24 point main power connector which I believe is for ATX 2.2 PSU's.

I bought another computer recently and put it together for another flat m8 and they PSU has the 24socket connector and the standard 12v CPU connector.

Although his computer worked before, could this be a PSU problem with me not having all the right connectors. If so why did it boot up and work for over 1 month before it decided to stop working?

Can anyone help? I feel responsabile for his computer as I put it together and I don't wanna see it broken :(

If the monitor won't work on your Pc, then chances are its borked. RMA it.

As to the monitor beeps, pennys to pounds the case speakers either not connected to the motherboard, or is the wrong way round (Very common mistake).

What happens with your monitor on his PC?

If there are no Beeps then there is probably something wrong at a basic level such as power or the board may not turn on for saftey reasons if something is not plugged in right. Post wouldn't even begin in that case (the beep code).

Have you tried turning the PSU switch on the back to OFF, waiting 10 seconds and turning it back on?

Edit:reread your post. Make sure you plugged in the 20pin PSU cord correctly with the correct 4pins not used on the board. Some older PSUs just don't work with the new standard FYI. Even with a 20-24pin adapter. But if it worked before I'm not sure why this would be the issue.

I saw this thread from the main forum page as "No Signal and no Motherboard..."

So I was about to come in and say, "Well there's your problem!" of course pointing out to the lack of a motherboard. :cheese:

yes i agree with asus on the 20-24pin connector. on my dfi board it needs dedicated 24pin or it will not even boot up.

Hmmm, but it seems strange that it would work for one month then suddenly not send a signal. Its definatly the Motherboard, PSU or CPU. The chances of it been the CPU are very small as the CPU has nothing to do with the signal. So its down to the PSU or Motherboard.

I might recommend to my friend to try a new PSU that has a 24pin connector. If it doesn't change anything I will buy it from him and he can send back his motherboard to get a replacement, it has a 3year warrenty so should be alright.

i just had the same ****ing problem. Computer worked perfect for over a year; one night im on it and its working just fine, i turn it off and go to bed, next day i go to turn it on and i get no signal to the monitor and no motherboard beep. Just like that, a great mobo from a great manufacturer decided to take a shit. On the subject though, does anyone know what would cause a motherboard to just cease to work on day? I'd love to know
