There is absolutely no sound coming from my speakers at all. At first I thought it might be the speakers themselves as they're old but I'm having the same problem with the replacements. There are six different sockets at the back of my computer that the speakers could be plugged into but it doesn't matter which one I use, there's still no sound. It also says that my speakers aren't plugged in but they are. It can't be a problem with the sound card because that's built into the motherboard. This all started happening after my new DVD writer was put in so I don't know if that could have anything to do with it. I'm pretty much computer illiterate so sorry if this sounds sort of noobish.

Can you hear anything at all? like through headphones?

If you can't, then can you click the speaker icon in the side tray in the taskbar?

If you can't or its not there, you may need a driver installed.

If you have the 5.1 surround with the motherboard, like I do, you can assign what port does what. I'd go into the drivers and look for something like that.

A test you could do is to see if those speakers will work on another machine.

Go to sound properties > audio tab > volume button under Sound Playback (also make sure the default device isn't set to something weird, although you should probably only have one option) and make sure all the sliders are at max (and that nothing is muted).

You have to make sure it's in the right one and the volume is loud enough. Can you see back there? Should be some indication of the correct jack to use.

If you don't want to search for the information and just want to take the easy way out, you could play some music on your computer while you try the different jacks.

Make sure the volume is set a little louder than you normally use it, just to make sure you hear it.

Make sure the speakers are on. lol

The green jack is your front stereo channel. Always.
