Well my problem is that the noise my PC fans produce has escalated to such a level that its really annoying unless i'm listening to music. Seeing as its in my bedroom it doesn't bode well for leaving it on for big downloads.

The strange thing is that it hasn't always been like this, i have 3 fans, one CPU fan which isn't very noisy, a case fan(which boats being silent, but isn't really) and the fan on my asus 5700GT. After unplugging some of the fans and testing the PC without them i've found that its the gfx card fan thats making the most noise, and it was fine when i first bought it. I can't unplug it as that will put my gfx card at risk of overheating. Any ideas why its become so noisy and any low cost fixes?

dust building up inside the case = less effective cooling = more fan rpm needed

give the insides a good clean:thumbs:

The above is true, also over time you will find that maybe the bearings, or bearing, depending on bearing types, may wear and the fan may become more noisy. I would recommend the purchase of an artic cooling silencer for your graphics card. Between 15-20 pounds, a lot cooler, a lot quieter.

I have all new fans, and no dust problem, and my fans are really loud too. Ive got a crappy Raidmax case tho, that could be your problem- a crap case. ?

yeah well all my case fans are vantec stealth 80mm- they do the job, dont have a heat problem, its just loud.

I use a fanbus in a 5.25" bay that controls (lowers) the RPM of my case fans (4 x 80mm, 2 in 2 out) to a level where I can't hear them yet they are still shifting enough air through my system to keep it very cool. The fanbus also has a shiney blue LCD screen that tells me each RPM and temperature.

I recommend you buy one too

I just cleaned out my case and the components and nothings changed soundwise(there was a lot of dust though, and some random bits :/)

My case fan is fine and is quiet like it should be, its only the Asus gfx card fan thats gotten noiser over time, i've looked at other gfx card coolers but income is quite low at the moment, so i'll have to think hard about whether i can dish out on one.

Yeh the arctic cooler is a fantastic thing, its damn quiet and it keeps my mildly overclocked card cool. You do have to be careful fitting it though, my mate who had the same card as me managed to bugger his memory and effectly ruined the card because he wasn't careful enough when he was putting it on. Appart from that, its great and I recommend it!
